EDINBORO, PA Two Edinboro University
softball players earned spots on the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference all-conference teams. Junior Leanne Carmichael
(Pinehurst, MA/Billerica Memorial) and sophomore Mandie
Iorfido (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) were each named All-PSAC West
second-team selections.
This is the first conference honor for both and
it marks the first time since the 2001 season that the Fighting
Scots have had more than one player recognized by the conference.
Carmichael, a first baseman, started and played
in all 38 games for the Fighting Scots, finishing with a .250
batting average along with 10 runs scored, three doubles and one
triple. She finished fourth on the team with 12 RBI and fifth in
hits with 27. The junior found a home at first after spending time
at third base and behind the plate in her first two seasons. She
anchored an infield which featured three freshmen and a sophomore
catcher.
Iorfido, a utility player who spent most of her
time behind the plate but also saw time at shortstop and second
base, finished as the teams leading hitter for the second
consecutive year with a .343 batting average, collecting 35 hits
in 102 trips to the plate. Last season, she hit .377 as a
freshman. Her 35 hits were second best on the team and her 11 RBI
tied three other Fighting Scots for fifth best. The sophomore also
hit eight doubles, the eighth-highest season total.
The Fighting Scots finished the regular season
with a 15-23 record, the most wins since the 2003 season when
Edinboro went 16-22.
