Recap
EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University outdoor
track and field team finished with three All-Americans at the NCAA
Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in
Emporia, KS. Kelly Richards (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) and
Rachael Lanzel (St. Mary's, PA/St. Marys) joined Julie
Nemergut (Youngstown, OH/South Range) as All-Americans on
Saturday.
Richards entered the national championships
with the third-best time in Division II in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase, and that's exactly where she finished in the finals.
The senior finished with a time of 11:03.00 while making her third
trip to the finals in the event. She earned All-American honors in
2003 with a seventh place finish, and was ninth a year ago, one
spot shy of All-American status.
Lanzel earned her All-American certificate with
an eighth place finish in the 5,000 meter run. The sophomore,
making her second appearance at Nationals, posted a time of
18:13.58.
Nemergut previously earned All-American honors
in the 10,000 meter run thanks to a seventh place finish, but she
fell just short of the difficult double. After competing in the
10,000 meter run on Thursday and the 5,000 preliminaries on
Friday, she placed 11th in the 5,000 on Saturday with a time of
18:42.03.
Edinboro, with four total representatives at
the national championships, finished 24th. |
