EDINBORO, PA A number of true freshmen
played key roles in Edinboros 28-14 win at West Chester last
Saturday, but none more so than Houston Brown (Westerville,
OH/ Westerville Central). The first-year cornerback was
recognized as the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week for his
outstanding play.
A 59, 195 lb. cornerback who plays
in a reserve role, Brown saw limited action in the first half. But
the second half was a different story. With West Chester unable to
run the ball and going to the air, Edinboro employed a number of
nickel and dime defensive packages.
Brown ended the day with 3 tackles, but more
importantly, recovered a pair of fumbles, broke up a pass, and
came up with his first career interception. He returned the
pickoff 40 yards for a touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game
to cement the win.
Edinboro is back in action on Saturday,
September 9, hosting St. Anselm at 1:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison
Stadium. |
