EDINBORO, PA – Danny Cooper scored a pair
of goals and assisted on the third as Slippery Rock handed
Edinboro a 3-1 defeat in a PSAC West match on Wednesday at
Slippery Rock. The Rock improves to 5-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the
PSAC West. Slippery Rock is ranked 19th in Division II and third
in the Northeast Region.
Edinboro came into the match ranked fifth in
the region. The Fighting Scots saw their three-game winning streak
come to an end while falling to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the
conference.
A year ago the two teams played to a pair of
scoreless ties, with Slippery Rock then winning the rubber match
in the PSAC Playoffs by a 4-1 count. This time around Edinboro
grabbed an early lead, only to see The Rock roar back for three
unanswered goals.
Ashley Jones (Erie, PA/Fairview) gave
Edinboro a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute off a free kick. It was the
sophomore’s first career goal. Slippery Rock tied the score
at 1-1 at the half thanks to the first of Cooper’s two goals,
this one coming in the 32nd minute.
Cooper gave The Rock a 2-1 lead with her second
goal at the 70-minute mark. She then assisted on Mallory Neubert’s
goal in the 80th minute as Slippery Rock notched an insurance
goal.
Slippery Rock held a 13-8 advantage in shots.
Lisa Bartolowits (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) was credited
with 5 saves in goal for Edinboro.
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday,
September 9, playing at Indiana(Pa.). The Indians are 3-1-0 and
ranked fourth in the Northeast Region. |
