September 9, 2006

Complete Box Score

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University women’s soccer team suffered its second straight road loss to a team ranked in the top five of the Northeast Region on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots dropped a 5-1 decision to Indiana(Pa.). The Indians came in ranked fourth in the Northeast Region, while Edinboro was fifth. Earlier in the week the Scots suffered a 3-1 setback at third-ranked Slippery Rock.

IUP blitzed the Boro with four goals in the first 30 minutes of the match. Sarah Romasco scored three of the goals, the first just 1:34 into the match, assisted by Carina Honeygosky. Ashley Jones (Erie, PA/Fairview) knotted the match at 1-1 with a goal off a free kick at 10:18. But just over two minutes later Romasco scored her second goal at the 12:34 mark, with an assist by Elyssa Dluhos, and she made it three goals when she hit the net at the 17:59 mark on an unassisted goal.

Brittany Pikur gave the Indians a 4-1 lead at the half with a goal from a Karly Hresko pass at 29:29. IUP would add an insurance goal at 54:53, with Pikur scoring her second goal, assisted by Romasco.

IUP held a narrow 19-18 advantage in shots while improving to 4-2-0 and 2-1-0 in PSAC West action. The Fighting Scots are now 3-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.

Edinboro is back in action on Saturday, September 16, hosting Clarion at 12 noon.
