EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens soccer team suffered its second straight road loss to
a team ranked in the top five of the Northeast Region on Saturday,
as the Fighting Scots dropped a 5-1 decision to Indiana(Pa.). The
Indians came in ranked fourth in the Northeast Region, while
Edinboro was fifth. Earlier in the week the Scots suffered a 3-1
setback at third-ranked Slippery Rock.
IUP blitzed the Boro with four goals in the
first 30 minutes of the match. Sarah Romasco scored three of the
goals, the first just 1:34 into the match, assisted by Carina
Honeygosky. Ashley Jones (Erie, PA/Fairview) knotted the
match at 1-1 with a goal off a free kick at 10:18. But just over
two minutes later Romasco scored her second goal at the 12:34
mark, with an assist by Elyssa Dluhos, and she made it three goals
when she hit the net at the 17:59 mark on an unassisted goal.
Brittany Pikur gave the Indians a 4-1 lead at
the half with a goal from a Karly Hresko pass at 29:29. IUP would
add an insurance goal at 54:53, with Pikur scoring her second
goal, assisted by Romasco.
IUP held a narrow 19-18 advantage in shots
while improving to 4-2-0 and 2-1-0 in PSAC West action. The
Fighting Scots are now 3-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.
Edinboro is back in action on Saturday,
September 16, hosting Clarion at 12 noon.
