EDINBORO, PA The injuries continue to
pile up for the Edinboro University womens soccer team,
sapping the team of much of its offensive firepower. The Fighting
Scots played their second straight 1-0 contest on Monday. After
edging Clarion, 1-0, on Saturday, they were not as fortunate
Monday, dropping a 1-0 decision at Lock Haven.
Edinboro has now scored just four goals in its
last five games, and suffered its first shutout of the season. The
Fighting Scots fall to 4-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the PSAC West.
Lock Haven improves to 5-4-0 and 1-3-0, respectively.
Coach Gary Kagiavass team was without
four starters, including leading scorer Angie de Almeida
(Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland). The junior forward had seven
goals and an assist in the first five games, but she has missed
the last three contests due to injury. Ashley Pulman (LaSalle,
ONT/ Sandwich Secondary) also missed the contest with an
injury. Though off to a slow start, she ranks right behind de
Almeida as an offensive threat.
Lock Haven scored the only goal just 8:33 into
the match, as Caitlin Martz notched her first goal of the season
off a corner kick from Sarah Thomas and Lynnette Reitz. The Lady
Eagles ended up with an 11-8 advantage in shots, limiting Edinboro
to one shot in the first half.
Emily Wagner posted the shutout in goal for
Lock Haven, coming up with 5 saves. Samantha Cairns (Natrona
Heights, PA/Highlands) was the hard-luck loser. The freshman
had one save in goal.
The Fighting Scots are back in action on
Saturday, September 23, playing another key PSAC West contest at
California(Pa.). That match gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
