EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
cross country teams competed in the 34th Annual Sean Earl Loyola
Lakefront Invitational this afternoon in Chicago, IL. The mens
team took eighth out of 18 teams in the Gold Division, while the
womens team took 19th place out of 19 teams.
Grand Valley State won both the mens and
womens races, with Southern Illinois second in both events.
On the mens side, Southwest Baptist was third, while Loyola
(Chicago) took third in the womens race.
Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys)
turned in the top individual showing, finishing fourth with a time
of 17:46. Becca Nungesser (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence),
one of three freshmen to score for the Fighting Scots, was next,
coming in 28th with a time of (18:49). Kristine Beringer
(Lockport, NY/Lockport) finished 58th (19:20), with Ashley
Ferraro (Erie, PA/Northwest Collegiate Academy/Central) 81st
(19:48) and Erica Bourgeois (Boonville, NY/Adirondack)
97th (20:08).
For the mens team, Dave Niemira
(Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) led the way with an 11th place
finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:14. Josh
Arthur (Turin, NY/South Lewis Central) was the next Edinboro
finisher, coming in 23rd (25:39). Jeff McCabe (Exeter,
PA/Wyoming Area) was 41st (26:03), followed by Eric Brenner
(Wooster, OH/Wooster) in 49th place (26;15), David Blend
(North canton, OH/Hoover) in 68th place (26:39), Andy
Thoman (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) in 101st (27:21), Ryan
Sheer (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) 102nd (27:25), and Chris
Lantinen (Gasport, NY/Barker Central) 144th (28:33).
Edinboro does not return to action until
October 18 when the Fighting Scots will run in the Tour de Scots
in Wooster, OH.
