EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens soccer team suffered a 5-2 loss to Indiana(Pa.) on
Saturday. The loss dropped the Fighting Scots to 5-7-0 overall and
2-6-0 in the PSAC West, virtually eliminating the Fighting Scots
from a second straight PSAC playoff berth. IUP, ranked 16th in
Division II and tied for second in the Northeast Region, remained
in first place in the Western Division with a 7-1-0 record and is
10-4-0 overall.
IUP scored the lone goal of the first half on
as Brittany Pikur headed in a corner kick from Shana Speese with
13:04 gone in the match. Pikur made it 2-0 early in the second
half with an assist going to Crystal Heder at 58:24.
Amanda Fecik made it 3-0 with her first goal of
the season, sending in a rebound of a missed shot at 65:09. Sarah
Romansco assisted on the goal.
Edinboro got on the board when Kara
Ciacchini (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored her second goal of the
season on a short shot in front of the net at 77:29, with Katie
DeLuca (Erie, PA/Strong Vincent) assisting. Just over a minute
later IUP boosted the advantage to three goals as Rayannin
Schreiner scored on a breakaway at 78:48.
The Fighting Scots would close the gap to 4-2
on Angie de Almeidas (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland)
ninth goal of the season at 82:29. Ciacchini picked up an assist
on the goal. IUP notched an insurance goal with 1:55 left in the
match as Melinda Lieb scored, assisted by Pikur.
Edinboro is back in action on Wednesday,
October 11 playing at Gannon. The match gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
