EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens soccer team snapped a two-match losing skid with a
4-1 win at local rival Gannon on Wednesday night. The Fighting
Scots snapped a 1-1 halftime tie with three goals in the second
half. In the process the Scots scored their most goals since the
third match of the season. Edinboro is now 6-7-0.
Edinboro opened the scoring as Jessica
Lassen (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg Central) scored her first
career goal just 8:18 into the match, heading a crossing pass from
Kim Koricich (Edinboro, PA/ General McLane) into the net. The
Golden Knights evened the score late in the first half on a goal
at the 42:23 mark.
The Fighting Scots scored twice in less than a
minute to take a 3-1 lead early in the second half. Freshman Maria
Dembrow (Lockport, NY/Lockport) scored her second goal of the
season on a two-one-one breakaway, taking a pass from Kara
Ciacchini (Erie, PA/McDowell). Ashley Jones (Erie,
PA/Fairview) then scored on a free kick from 50 yards out when
the ball went through the goalkeepers hands just moments
later, at 62:17.
Katie DeLuca (Erie, PA/Northwest Collegiate
Academy/Strong Vincent) added an insurance goal with her first
goal of the season and second of her career at the 78:44 mark,
with Ciacchini picking up her second assist.
Edinboro held a 15-14 advantage in shots. Lisa
Bartolowits (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) recorded four saves
in goal for the Boro.
The Fighting Scots return to action on
Saturday, October 14, hosting Millersville at 12 noon.
