EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University mens
and womens cross country teams were in action for the first
time since September 30 on Wednesday, competing in the Wooster
Relays in Wooster, OH. Edinboro, Wooster and Otterbein competed in
the event. The relays were the final preparation for the Fighting
Scots before the PSAC Championships on October 28. In addition,
head coach Doug Watts team has now gone 34 years and 127
straight meets without a loss in a dual meet.
The annual meet, now in its seventh year, is a
non-scoring event with runners racing four different distances and
then adding up their times for their individual finish. The womens
race consisted of 2000 meters, 600 meters, 800 meters, and 1000
meters, with a seven-minute break in between each, for a total of
4400 meters. The mens race covered a total distance of 6800
meters, entailing 2000, 1000, 800 and 3000 meter races.
Edinboro runners captured both the mens
and womens crowns, with the Fighting Scots dominating the
mens field with the first four finishers. Rachael Lanzel
(St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) continued her outstanding season,
crossing the finish line first in the womens race with a
time of 19:01. On the mens side, Dave Niemira
(Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) took first place with a
combined time of 21:33.
