Three Fighting Scots Earn All-PSAC West Women’s Soccer Honors
November 2, 2006

EDINBORO, PA – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has announced the 2006 All-PSAC Women’s Soccer Teams. A trio of Edinboro players were recognized, with Angie de Almeida (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) and Ashley Jones (Erie, PA/Fairview) named to the first team, and Mary Grebenc (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) landing a spot on the second team.

Indiana(Pa.) forward Sarah Romasco was named both the Athlete of the Year and the Rookie of the Year in the Western Division, with IUP head coach Adel Heder selected the Coach of the Year.

de Almeida was Edinboro’s main offensive weapon, finishing as the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals and 2 assists for 22 points, despite missing three games due to injury and playing the second half of the season at less than 100 percent. The junior forward was also named an All-PSAC West choice as a sophomore. The 10 goals is tied for sixth in the season records, with the 22 points ranking 11th. de Almeida has moved into fifth place in career points (52) and is fourth in career goals (22).

Jones and Grebenc anchored an Edinboro defense that posted six shutouts and held opponents to 26 goals. Jones, a sophomore defender, was previously named the Rookie of the Year in 2005 in addition to landing a spot on the first team. In addition to her usual outstanding job at sweeper, she saw time in the midfield. Jones finished third on the team in scoring with 5 goals and 2 assists for 12 points.

Grebenc is a junior defender who started all 17 matches. She contributed 2 goals and an assist in addition to strong defensive play.

Edinboro finished with a 10-7-0 record, ending the season on a five-game winning streak. The ten wins were the most since 2002.
