EDINBORO, PA A total of nine Edinboro
University wrestlers placed at the Buffalo Open on Sunday,
November 5. Leading the group was Pat Bradshaw (Saegertown,
PA/ Saegertown), a redshirt freshman who captured first place
at 197 lbs.
Bradshaw entered as the second seed after
finishing third a year ago. He went 3-0, starting out with a 3-1
win over Jason Brown of Buffalo, the seventh seed. He advanced to
the finals with a 4-1 decision over Gannons Jacob Tazzi,
then edged Jeremie Cook of Lock Haven, the number seed, by a 4-3
decision.
Terry Tate (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone Area)
also reached the final at heavyweight, but suffered an 8-5 loss to
Zach Hammond of Cornell, who came in seeded third. Tate was the
fifth seed. He reached the with a 2-1 overtime win over Mike Spaid
of Bloomsburg, last years EWL champion. Tate finished 3-1 on
the day, also winning 6-5 over Jason Weber of Buffalo and 5-3 over
Gannons Frank McGrath, the number four seed.
Three Fighting Scots brought home third place
finishes, including a pair of freshmen. Danny Whitenak (Middle
River, MD/Mount St. Joseph) was third at 125 lbs., finishing
5-1 with three falls on the day. Kyle Fluke (State College,
PA/State College), like Whitenak a freshman, was third at 133
lbs. with a 4-1 record. Flukes lone loss was by a 6-3
decision to Buffalos Mark Budd, an NCAA qualifier in 2006.
Rick McLaughlin (West Chester, PA/West
Chester Henderson) was third at 141 lbs. The senior went 5-1,
with his lone loss to eventual champion Ryan Needle of Buffalo via
a 7-4 decision.
John Foley (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis),
a redshirt freshman, placed fourth at 157 lbs. Foley was 4-2.
Edinboro had a pair of fifth place finishers in
Ricky Saxton (Fort Belvoir, VA/Mt. Vernon) at 149 lbs. and
Shawn Fendone (Salem, NH/Central Catholic(Mass.)) at 184
lbs., and Joel Webster (Norfolk, CT/Northwestern Reg.) was
sixth at 141 lbs. Saxton, a freshman, was 5-2, while Fendone,
another freshman, was 2-2. Redshirt freshman Webster was 3-3. |
