EDINBORO, PA -- The Edinboro University men's
basketball team suffered its first season-opening loss since the
2002-03 season on Wednesday night, dropping a 61-57 decision at
West Virginia Wesleyan.
Ryan McLemore was one of the few bright spots
for the Fighting Scots. With leading scorer and rebounder Daren
Tielsch sitting out the game due to a one-game penalty from the
NCAA, the 6'9" junior posted career highs of 16 points and 15
rebounds, adding a pair of blocked shots. He made 7 of 9 field
goals and 2 of 2 free throws.
Unfortunately, the rest of the Fighting Scots
shot a combined 13 of 46 from the floor, as Edinboro ended the
night shooting 36.4 percent from the floor. Devon Knight was the
only other Scot in double digits, scoring 12 points. However, the
5'9" junior shot just 4 of 18 from the floor. Meanwhile,
Curtis Ingram, who was recently chosen to the preseason All-PSAC
West team, made just one of 11 shots and and scored just 5 points.
Ingram did pull down 7 rebounds.
West Virginia Wesleyan didn't fare much better,
also shooting 36.4 percent from the floor. Andy Chelcher led the
Bobcats with 18 points and 14 rebounds, with Dureyea Garnett
adding 17 points. Chris Smith added 11 boards as the Bobcats held
a 42-38 advantage on the glass.
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday,
November 25, hosting Penn State McKeesport. The Fighting Scots
should be closer to full strength at that time, with Tielsch
returning. In addition Joe Jones, an expected starter in the
backcourt, will be closer to returning after undergoing knee
surgery in late October.
