EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens basketball team made it back-to-back wins to start
the 2006-07 campaign on Saturday, defeating UNC Pembroke, 58-37,
in the second day of the Millersville Classic. Edinboro is 2-0,
and UNC Pembroke is 0-2.
The Fighting Scots held UNC Pembroke to 32.5
percent shooting from the floor (13 of 40), good enough to
overcome their own 22 of 58 effort (37.9 percent). Edinboro took
full advantage of the three-point arc, making 8 of 28
three-pointers. They also held a 35-25 advantage on the glass and
forced 21 turnovers.
Kelly Calderone led the Fighting Scots with 19
points, making 5 of 14 three-pointers. The senior guard added 5
steals. Calderone now has 979 career points, 21 shy of 1,000.
Freshman Samantha Reimer was in double figures for the second
straight day with 16 markers, adding 4 assists. Jessica Trotter
came off the bench to pull down a team-high 8 rebounds, with
freshman Kelsey Conklin adding 7 boards.
Edinboro returns to action on Tuesday, November
21, hosting 14th-ranked Charleston(WV). Tipoff at McComb
Fieldhouse is set for 5:30 p.m. Charleston knocked the Fighting
Scots out of the NCAA Playoffs a year ago. |
