Fighting Scots Collect First Men's Basketball Win, 79-51, Over Penn State McKeesport
Knight Leads Four Players in Double Figures

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro men’s basketball team had four players in double figures on Saturday in a 79-51 win over visiting Penn State McKeesport. The Fighting Scots opened a six-game homestand while evening their record at 1-1. The Lions fell to 1-4.

Devon Knight (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) paced the Fighting Scots with 14 points, while Daren Tielsch (McKees Rock, PA/Montour) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. The 6’8” senior was playing in his first game after sitting out the season opener at West Virginia Wesleyan. Curtis Ingram (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) also scored 13 points, with Joseph Jones (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) contributing 10 points. Jones, a transfer from Roberts Wesleyan, also missed the opener following knee surgery in late October. He added 5 assists and a pair of steals in 21 minutes.

After a slow start, Edinboro finally shook the stubborn Lions early in the second half. An 11-4 Penn State McKeesport run closed the gap to 39-33 with 15:51 to play, but the Fighting Scots proceeded to go on a 20-2 run to put the game out of reach at 59-35 with 10:29 left. Jones led the run with six points, with Knight contributing five.

Edinboro shot just 36.8 percent in the first half, but sizzled in the second half, making 67.9 percent to end the game at 50.0 percent from the floor. Penn State McKeesport shot just 29.0 percent, and the Fighting Scots also held a 46-34 advantage on the glass. In addition to Tielsch, Ryan McLemore (Cleveland, OH/St. Peter Chanel) reached double digits with 11 rebounds.

The Fighting Scots return to action on Monday, November 27, hosting local rival Gannon in a 7 p.m. tipoff at McComb Fieldhouse. After having ten days in between games, they now have a stretch of five games in nine days.
