Millersville Women Hand Edinboro First Loss, 56-53
Fighting Scots Squander 11-Point Second-Half Lead

EDINBORO, PA – In a physical contest featuring 49 fouls and 59 turnovers, the Edinboro University women’s basketball suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 56-53 decision to visiting Millersville. Both teams are now 3-1.

Thanks to a 9-2 run early in the second half, the Fighting Scots grabbed an 11-point lead at 37-26 with 13:26 remaining. Edinboro still led 42-34 with 9:37 to play after Kelly Calderone (Freedom, PA/

Ambridge) scored on a layup. That’s when Millersville began its comeback. The Marauders outscored Edinboro, 12-3, over the next three minutes to take the lead at 46-45. After a pair of ties, Millersville grabbed the lead for good at 52-50 on a jumper by Ashley Romanoski with 2:39 remaining.

Samantha Reimer (Altoona, PA/Altoona) made one of two free throws at the 2:20 mark, but Millersville retaliated with a jumper by Branden Lippy with 1:28 remaining to make it 54-51. Calderone’s layup closed the gap to one at 54-53 with 29 seconds left, but Kari Cover made one of two free throws with 21 seconds left for a two-point lead. Edinboro had an opportunity to tie, but Agnieszka Michalow (Krakow, Poland/Krakow #32) missed a layup with six seconds left. Lippy made one of two free throws with just over three seconds for the final margin.

Calderone led Edinboro with 15 points, moving her into 20th place in career scoring with 1,026 points. She added 8 steals. Reimer was the only other Fighting Scot in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Kelsey Conklin (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) pulled down 11 rebounds. Romanoski paced Millersville with 21 points.

Hounded by Millersville’s physical play, Edinboro ended the day shooting 32.6 percent from the floor (15 of 46). The Marauders finished at 37.3 percent (19 of 51) and held a 42-37 advantage on the boards. Millersville finished with 30 turnovers, while Edinboro had 29.

Edinboro returns to action tomorrow afternoon, hosting West Chester at 1:00 p.m.
