EDINBORO, PA Edinboro Universitys
Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) has been named
the 2006 Pennsylvania State Athlete Conference Womens Cross
Country Athlete of the Year.
Lanzel is a junior who led all PSAC runners
with a fourth place finish at the recent NCAA Division II National
Championships. It marked the highest finish by a Fighting Scot in
years. She finished with a time 20:28.5 to earn All-American
honors for the second time. In the process she became just the
seventh runner in Boro history to earn multiple All-American
certificates.
Lanzel earlier won the PSAC Championship after
finishing second in 2005. She added a second place finish at the
East Regional, the second year in a row she was second.
Edinboro finished tenth at Nationals, with
Lanzel leading a very young team which lost three key runners to
injury before the season began. What was expected to be a
rebuilding year turned into a season in which Edinboro won its
ninth straight PSAC championship and finished second at the East
Regional. |
