EDINBORO, PA Kelly Calderone, Samantha
Reimer and Rae Sherred combined for 53 points as Edinboro handed
visiting East Stroudsburg its first loss of the season, 69-54. The
victory was the second straight for the Fighting Scots and boosted
them to 5-3, while the Warriors fall to 6-1.
Calderone paced the Fighting Scots with 22
points. The senior guard made 8 of 13 field goal attempts and was
5 of 5 from the line. She added a team-high 6 rebounds and had 4
steals. Reimer, a freshman guard, added 17 points, making 9 of 12
free throws. Sherred contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds, making
a pair of big three-pointers in the second half.
Edinboro won the game at the free throw line,
making 21 of 31 free throws while East Stroudsburg was 9 of 15 at
the charity stripe. The Fighting Scots shot 50.0 percent from the
floor while holding the Warriors to 39.6 percent from the floor.
Both teams committed 23 turnovers, with early
miscues causing Edinboro to fall behind early. East Stroudsburg
scored the first seven points of the game as Edinboro struggled
against the Warriors press. The Fighting Scots closed the
first half on a 10-2 run, with Reimer contributing five markers,
to take a 34-26 lead at intermission. The lead came despite 18
turnovers over the first twenty minutes. However, the Fighting
Scots shot a sizzling 73.3 percent in the first half, making 11 of
15 shots.
Edinboro led the entire second half, with the
Warriors managing to pull within five points on two occasions.
The Fighting Scots return to action on
Wednesday night, hosting Kutztown in the second half of the
back-to-back PSAC crossover twinbill.
