EDINBORO, PA – In a matchup of two NCAA East Regional Playoff teams in 2005-06, Edinboro defeated visiting Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday night, 84-67. The victory is the second straight for the Fighting Scots, who improve to 8-3. Alderson-Broaddus has now lost two in a row and is 4-4.

The Battlers were true to their nickname, rallying from an 18-point deficit early in the second half to pull to within seven points at 64-57 on John Regula’s three-pointer with 7:30 remaining in the game. Edinboro answered with a 14-4 run over the next three minutes, punctuated by a thunderous slam dunk by Ryan McLemore on an alley-oop pass from Joseph Jones. Jones scored five points and Devon Knight four in the run that gave Edinboro a 78-61 lead.

The Fighting Scots never trailed in the game, and used a 16-5 burst late in the first half to go from a 26-18 lead to a 42-23 advantage. They settled for a 42-27 lead at the half as Daren Tielsch and Jones combined for 28 points.

Tielsch led the way with a season-high 30 points as the Battlers had no answer for his inside moves. The 6’8” senior made 13 of 20 field goals and was 4-for-4 from the line. He added 11 rebounds to finish with his seventh double-double in ten games. Tielsch moved into 23rd place in career scoring with 1,092 points.

Jones added 18 points and a team-high 5 assists, with Knight adding 15 points. The backcourt duo combined to make 13 of 21 field goals.

Edinboro shot a season-high 51.5 percent from the floor while limiting Alderson-Broaddus to 40.6 percent. In addition, the Fighting Scots made 12 of 14 free throws after entering the game shooting less than sixty percent for the season. Edinboro held a 41-36 advantage on the glass.

The Fighting Scots are back in action on Saturday, January 6 at Cheyney. Tipoff against the Wolves is 3:00 p.m.
