EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University
womens basketball team squandered a halftime lead for the
second straight game on Saturday, as Mansfield rallied from a
six-point halftime deficit to defeat the Fighting Scots, 63-54.
The loss was Edinboros fourth in the last five games and
dropped the Fighting Scots to 7-7. Edinboro is back in action on
Sunday, January 14, playing in its final PSAC crossover contest at
Bloomsburg.
The Fighting Scots led 30-24 at the half, but
then went stone cold over the final twenty minutes. Edinboro shot
just 36.4 percent (8 of 22) and committed ten turnovers during
that period.
Mansfield took control of the game with a 16-2
run to start the second half. While falling behind 40-32 with
12:47 remaining, Edinboro made just one of seven shots and turned
the ball over five times. That was part of a 27-6 burst for the
Mountaineers, as Edinboro fell behind, 51-36. The Fighting Scots
never got closer than eight points the rest of the afternoon.
Freshman Kelsey Conklin enjoyed her second
straight outstanding effort in defeat. The 61 freshman
scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her second
straight double-double and fifth overall. She made 9 of 13 field
goals and 5 of 5 free throws. Conklin was coming off a career-high
27 point effort against Shippensburg.
Kelly Calderone added 10 points and 7 assists.
The senior guard moved into 13th place in career scoring with
1,210 points. Freshman Samantha Reimer added 10 points. |
