EDINBORO, PA All five starters scored in
double figures on Wednesday night as the Edinboro University mens
basketball improved to 2-0 in PSAC West action with an 87-59 win
over visiting Slippery Rock. The victory boosted the Fighting
Scots to 11-5 overall.
The 87 points was a season-high for the
Fighting Scots, who left little to chance against a Slippery Rock
team which fell to 4-13 overall and 1-1 in league play. While
never trailing in the game, Edinboro jumped out to a 23-6 lead
just eight minutes into the game. The Rock closed the gap to eight
points at 25-17 thanks to an 8-0 run. Any comeback hopes were
quickly squashed as Edinboro built the lead back up to 17 points
before settling for a 46-32 lead at the half.
Hot shooting helped keep Slippery Rock in the
game over the first twenty minutes, as The Rock shot 53.6 percent.
Edinboro was also efficient in the first half at 54.1 percent.
The second half was a different story, however.
Edinboro, the top-ranked team in the PSAC in scoring defense and
field goal percentage defense, held The Rock to 27 points and 30.3
percent from the floor. Slippery Rock could pull no closer than 13
points in the second half, on two occasions, but Edinboro answered
with a 14-2 run to build the lead up to 75-50 with 7:48 to play.
Daren Tielsch led five players in double
figures with 25 points. The 68 senior made 11 of 17
field goals and was 3 of 5 from the line. He moved into 17th place
in career scoring with 1,167 points. Devon Knight added 15 points,
while Joseph Jones flirted with a double-double with 12 points and
9 assists. The 62 sophomore was coming off a
career-high 32-point game at Bloomsburg.
Ryan McLemore also just missed a double-double,
by one rebound. The 69 junior scored 10 points and
pulled down a game-high 9 rebounds. He added 4 blocked shots,
giving him 64 for the season. That is tied for the sixth-highest
total in school history. Curtis Ingram also finished the night
with 10 points. Kyree Brown also turned in a strong effort off the
bench with 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Vlad Kovalevsky had 5
points and 6 boards.
Edinboro ended the night shooting 49.4 percent
from the floor while holding The Rock to 41.0 percent. The
Fighting Scots held a 43-35 edge on the glass. Edinboro also
committed just 10 turnovers while forcing 19.

Saturday, January 20, playing at Indiana(Pa.). Tipoff begins at
