Complete Box Score

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University women’s basketball team fell to 0-3 in PSAC West play with a 78-56 loss at Indiana(Pa.) on Saturday. It marks the first time the Fighting Scots have lost their first three conference games since 2001-02, when they began 0-6. Edinboro falls below .500 at 8-9 overall, while the Crimson Hawks are now 12-5 and 2-0, respectively.

Frigid shooting and large deficits both on the boards and at the free throw line did in the Fighting Scots. Edinboro shot just 29.6 percent from the floor, while IUP came in at 39.3 percent. In addition, the Crimson Hawks had a 53-37 rebounding advantage. Finally, IUp made 27 of 34 free throws, while Edinboro was 9 of 11 from the charity stripe.

Edinboro led briefly in the contest at 8-7, but IUP grabbed the lead for good at 10-8, and proceeded to boost the margin to 20-10 at the midway point of the first half, part of a 15-2 run. The Fighting Scots would eventually close the gap to six points at 29-23 with 2:18 left on Kelly Calderone’s (Freedom, PA/Ambridge) jumper, but IUP outscored the Scots 9-2 the rest of the half for a 38-25 lead.

The Fighting Scots scored the first basket of the second half, but IUP answered with a 14-3 run over the next six minutes. Edinboro never saw the deficit get under 15 points after that.

Calderone led the Fighting Scots with 23 points, moving her within one point of tenth place in career scoring. The senior guard has 1,262 career points. She also was a perfect 6-for-6 at the line, and has now made 25 consecutive free throws. Earlier in the year she had a stretch of 46 straight free throws made.

Freshman Kelsey Conklin (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) was the only other Boro player in double digits, ending the day with 12 points. Another freshman, Samantha Reimer (Altoona, PA/ Altoona), had 8 points and 6 rebounds.

The Fighting Scots look to pick up win number one in PSAC West action next Saturday, January 27, at Lock Haven
