EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University mens
basketball team won its fourth straight game on Wednesday night
with an 85-53 win over Franciscan. All ten players scored in the
victory, which boosted the Fighting Scots to 13-5, while
Franciscan fell to 3-14. Edinboro is now 10-2 at McComb
Fieldhouse.
Edinboro held the Barons to 29.0 percent
shooting from the floor, the fourth time this season the Fighting
Scots limited an opponent to under 30 percent shooting. The
Fighting Scots entered the game leading the PSAC in scoring
defense and field goal percentage defense. Those figures now stand
at 61.3 ppg. and 36.7 percent, respectively, the latter figure
ranking second in Division II.
The Fighting Scots shot 43.8 percent from the
floor and enjoyed one of their better nights at the free throw
line, making 17 of 24 (70.8 percent). In addition, they held a
55-37 advantage on the glass and forced 19 turnovers.
Reserve forward Vlad Kovalevsky, a 67
freshman, led the Fighting Scots with his first career
double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 20 rebounds, 12
on the offensive side. Both figures were season-highs, and the 20
rebounds represented a high in the PSAC this season. The previous
high was held by the Boros Daren Tielsch with 19 against
Gannon.
Tielsch led all scorers with 19 points in just
15 minutes. The 68 senior was perfect from the floor,
making all seven of his field goal attempts, including his first
three-pointer of the season, and was 4 of 6 from the line. He
moved into 14th place in career scoring with 1,205 points.
Curtis Ingram was also in double figures with
11 points in 14 rebounds, with Devon Knight adding 10 markers and
four steals. Ryan McLemore assisted Kovalevsky on the boards with
10 rebounds.
Edinboro dominated play in the paint,
outscoring the Barons 56-16. The Fighting Scots also held a 25-8
advantage in points off turnovers, and scored 17 fast break points
compared to none for Franciscan. Edinboro trailed just once in the
game, that at 5-4, but the Fighting Scots responded with a 15-2
run and were never threatened after that.
The Fighting Scots return to PSAC West action
on Saturday, January 27 at Lock Haven. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
