Swimmers Split With Gannon
Men’s Team Edges Golden Knights, 102-101

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University men’s swimming team came up with a one-point win over local rival Gannon on Friday night, while the women’s narrowly missed handing the Lady Knights their first loss, suffering a one-point loss at McComb Fieldhouse. On the men’s side, it was Edinboro edging Gannon, 102-101. In the women’s meet, with Slippery Rock also taking part, it was Gannon defeating Edinboro, 48-47, and Slippery Rock, 73-22. The Fighting Scots handed The Rock women a 77-18 defeat.

The victory for the Boro men’s swimming team evens their record at 4-4, while Gannon is now 6-3. The Edinboro women move to 4-6, with Gannon a perfect 11-0 and Slippery Rock at 0-7.

On the men’s side, Nick Whiteman (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) picked up a pair of grueling wins. The senior touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:26.68, then came back to win the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.06.

Sophomore Brandon Davidson (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) also took part in a pair of wins. He swam a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which also included (Derek Sapp (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Jon Williams (Harrisburg, PA/Riverside), and Josh Corbran (Warren, PA/ Warren), then won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.41.

Edinboro’s other win from the men’s team came from Kyle Pittman (Ottawa, ONT/St. Peter Catholic). The sophomore won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.01.

The women were led by Brooke Heath (Woodstock, ONT/Ingersoll District II) and Desiree’ Thomas (Broadview Heights, OH/North Royalton). Heath, a five-time All-American, picked up three wins. The junior was first in the 200-yard IM (2:11.70), the 100-yard freestyle (54.13), and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.01).

Thomas, a freshman, captured the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.60, and swam a leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. That team also included Lauren Knupp (Somerset, PA/ Somerset), Jamie Tiano (Monroeville, PA/Gateway), and Samantha Sustrich (Venetia, PA/Peters Township).

Edinboro is back in action on Saturday, January 27, competing at Allegheny. The meet gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
