Fighting Scots Suffer First PSAC West Loss As Lock Haven Upsets Edinboro Men, 61-58
January 27, 2007

Complete Box Score

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday at Lock Haven, and at the same time suffered its first loss in PSAC West action. The Fighting Scots were upset by the Bald Eagles, 61-58, to fall to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West. Lock Haven is now 8-11 and 2-3, respectively.

The contest was tight throughout, featuring eight ties and 11 lead changes. Edinboro ultimately lost the game due to poor shooting from beyond the three-point arc and at the free throw line. The Fighting Scots made just 2 of 13 three-pointers and were 6 of 13 from the charity stripe. Lock Haven wasn’t much better from three-point distance, making just 3 of 11, but the Bald Eagles were 12 of 16 from the line.

Edinboro appeared to take control midway through the second half, going up by six points at 49-43 with 9:14 remaining on Joseph Jones’ three-point play. But Lock Haven answered with the next seven points for a 50-49 lead with 3:37 to play, as Edinboro failed to score for over five-and-a-half minutes.

Lock Haven would go up 57-53 with 20 seconds left as Billy Arre made one of two free throws. Devon Knight cut the lead to 57-55 with 12 seconds remaining on a jumper. The Fighting Scots fouled immediately with 11 seconds showing, but Justin Wilson, LHU head coach John Wilson’s son, made both free throws for a 59-55 lead.

Jones came back down and drained a three-pointer as Edinboro pulled to within one at 59-58 with eight seconds still remaining. The comeback hopes took a severe hit following an Edinboro timeout. Arre broke free for the clinching dunk on the inbounds pass. Jones missed a three at the buzzer.

Curtis Ingram led Edinboro with 14 points, and also pulled down 6 rebounds. Jones contributed 12 points and 6 boards, while Ryan McLemore had his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The 6’9” junior keyed a 44-37 advantage on the glass.

Daren Tielsch moved into 13th place in career scoring with 1,213 points. The 6’8” senior did not enjoy one of his better days, however. He made just 4 of 10 field goals and continued to struggle at the line, missing all three attempts, to finish with 8 points. In addition, he was credited with 11 of Edinboro’s 18 turnovers.

Edinboro returns to action on Monday, January 29, playing at Clarion. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m., with the Fighting Scots in the midst of a stretch of four road games in five games.
