Official Press Release

Edinboro Drops 69-54 Decision at Shippenburg
Fighting Scots Fall Into Third Place in PSAC West
February 3, 2007

Complete Box Score

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro men’s basketball team suffered a 69-54 loss at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon, as the Red Raiders moved into second place in the PSAC West with a 5-2 league mark. Edinboro falls into third place at 4-3, and is 14-8 overall. Shippensburg remains perfect at Heiges Field House with a 10-0 record, and has won 36 of its last 38 games on its homecourt.

The Fighting Scots led by four points at the half, 27-23, but a weary team playing its fourth game – three on the road – in eight days saw Shippensburg outscore them 46-27 in the final twenty minutes. In fact, while Edinboro was upsetting league-leading and 19th-ranked California(Pa.) on Wednesady, the Red Raiders were off and had four days to prepare and rest for the Boro.

The first half featuring both teams struggling from the field, with Edinboro making 8 of 26 shots (30.8 percent) and Shippensburg 9 of 32 shots (28.1 percent). At one point the two teams went scoreless for five-and-a-half minutes, combing to miss 16 straight shots and turn the ball over five times, all by Edinboro. Turnovers would plague the Scots all day, as they committed 22.

Shippensburg heated up in the second half, however, shooting 44.8 percent, while Edinboro remained cold at 31.3 percent. Even more telling, the Red Raiders made 17 of 21 free throws after going to the line just four times in the first half.

The Red Raiders began the second half with an early 13-0 run to take a 41-30 lead. Edinboro would close to within five points at 44-39 with 8:41 remaining on Daren Tielsch’s jumper, but Shippensburg used an 18-4 run to pull away.

Joseph Jones led the Fighting Scots with 16 points, while Curtis Ingram scored 15 points. Tielsch was also in double digits with 10 points, but Edinboro’s leading scorer played just 24 minutes before fouling out.

Tielsch wasn’t the only interior player to foul out. Ryan McLemore also exited via fouls, but not before contributing 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. The 6’9” junior moved into third place in career blocked shots with 171.

Shippensburg was paced by Chuck Davis, the 2006 PSAC West Player of the Year. He finished with 23 points after scoring just two points in the earlier meeting, a 76-51 win for the Fighting Scots.

Edinboro completes a stretch of four road games in five contests as it travels to Slippery Rock on Wednesday, February 7.
