EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro mens
basketball team suffered a 69-54 loss at Shippensburg on Saturday
afternoon, as the Red Raiders moved into second place in the PSAC
West with a 5-2 league mark. Edinboro falls into third place at
4-3, and is 14-8 overall. Shippensburg remains perfect at Heiges
Field House with a 10-0 record, and has won 36 of its last 38
games on its homecourt.
The Fighting Scots led by four points at the
half, 27-23, but a weary team playing its fourth game three
on the road in eight days saw Shippensburg outscore them
46-27 in the final twenty minutes. In fact, while Edinboro was
upsetting league-leading and 19th-ranked California(Pa.) on
Wednesady, the Red Raiders were off and had four days to prepare
and rest for the Boro.
The first half featuring both teams struggling
from the field, with Edinboro making 8 of 26 shots (30.8 percent)
and Shippensburg 9 of 32 shots (28.1 percent). At one point the
two teams went scoreless for five-and-a-half minutes, combing to
miss 16 straight shots and turn the ball over five times, all by
Edinboro. Turnovers would plague the Scots all day, as they
committed 22.
Shippensburg heated up in the second half,
however, shooting 44.8 percent, while Edinboro remained cold at
31.3 percent. Even more telling, the Red Raiders made 17 of 21
free throws after going to the line just four times in the first
half.
The Red Raiders began the second half with an
early 13-0 run to take a 41-30 lead. Edinboro would close to
within five points at 44-39 with 8:41 remaining on Daren Tielschs
jumper, but Shippensburg used an 18-4 run to pull away.
Joseph Jones led the Fighting Scots with 16
points, while Curtis Ingram scored 15 points. Tielsch was also in
double digits with 10 points, but Edinboros leading scorer
played just 24 minutes before fouling out.
Tielsch wasnt the only interior player to
foul out. Ryan McLemore also exited via fouls, but not before
contributing 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. The 69
junior moved into third place in career blocked shots with 171.
Shippensburg was paced by Chuck Davis, the 2006
PSAC West Player of the Year. He finished with 23 points after
scoring just two points in the earlier meeting, a 76-51 win for
the Fighting Scots.

in five contests as it travels to Slippery Rock on Wednesday,
