EDINBORO, PA Edinboro Universitys
Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) has been named to
the Pennsylvania State Athlete Conference Fall Top Ten. Lanzel was
one of five women and five men recognized for their academic and
athletic excellence. The PSAC designates Top Ten Award winners
after each sports season: fall, winter, and spring.
Lanzel was earlier named the 2006 PSAC Womens
Cross Country Athlete of the Year. She is a junior who led all
PSAC runners with a fourth place finish at the recent NCAA
Division II National Championships. It marked the highest finish
by a Fighting Scot in years. She finished with a time 20:28.5 to
earn All-American honors for the second time. In the process she
became just the seventh runner in Boro history to earn multiple
All-American certificates.
Lanzel earlier won the PSAC Championship after
finishing second in 2005. She added a second place finish at the
East Regional, the second year in a row she was second.
Edinboro finished tenth at Nationals, with
Lanzel leading a very young team which lost three key runners to
injury before the season began. What was expected to be a
rebuilding year turned into a season in which Edinboro won its
ninth straight PSAC championship and finished second at the East
Regional.
Lanzel maintains a 3.70 GPA as a Health &
Physical Education major. In addition to her recognition as the
PSAC Athlete of the Year in cross country, she was previously
named the PSAC Rookie of the Year in cross country in 2004, in
indoor track in 2005, and in outdoor track in 2005. She earned
All-American honors in track and field after placing eighth in the
5,000 meters in last years NCAA Division II Outdoor Track &
Field National Championships.
