Kelly Calderone (Freedom, PA/Ambridge) was recognized as
the PSAC West Player of the Week for the period ending February 4.
It marked the second time this year the senior guard has earned
the honor. She led the Fighting Scots to a 3-0 record, including
road wins at Clarion and Shippensburg. In between Edinboro snapped
a 13-game losing streak to California(Pa.).
Calderone averaged 21.7 ppg. during the period,
including a 26-point effort against Cal. She made 7 of 18 shots
from the floor, including 3 of 5 three-pointers, and was 9 of 10
from the line against the Vulcans. Edinboro prevailed, 77-59.
The 57 guard opened the week with
22 points in a 55-50 win at Clarion. Her layup with thirty seconds
remaining accounted for the winning basket. She made 8 of 16
shots, including a three-pointer, and was 5 of 6 at the free throw
line. In addition, she had 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The week ended with a 65-53 win at
Shippensburg, just the second time in 18 games that Edinboro has
won at Heiges Field House. Calderone led the Scots with 19 points,
making 7 of 15 field goals, with 2 of 3 three-pointers, along with
3 of 6 at the charity stripe. She also had 4 assists.
Calderone leads the Fighting Scots in scoring
at 19.1 ppg., and is also the leader in assists (88) and steals
(55). She ranks 22nd in Division II in scoring and is 33rd in free
throw percentage at 85.5 percent.
