Edinboro concludes the regular season on
Saturday at California(Pa.). Depending on Saturdays
outcomes, the Fighting Scots could finish as high as second in the
Western Division or as low as fourth.
The Fighting Scots trailed just once in the
contest while sweeping the season series with the Golden Eagles.
That came at 4-2 on a pair of Clarion free throws a
minute-and-a-half into the game. Rae Sherred nailed a three the
next time downcourt for a 5-4 Boro lead, and the Scots never
trailed again.
However, a 20-6 burst over the final nine
minutes of the half gave Edinboro a comfortable 41-23 lead at
intermission. Kelsey Conklin scored eight of her game-high 18
points during the stretch, with Sherred adding two more
three-pointers. Edinboro sizzled from the field in the opening
twenty minutes, hitting 58.6 percent, while Clarion was at 33.3
percent.
Clarion pulled to within nine points twice in
the second half, the second time with 6:20 remaining to make it
63-54. Sherred answered with her fourth three-pointer of the night
to stem the Golden Eagles comeback bid. Clarion would never
pull closer than ten points the rest of the way.
Edinboro shot a season-high 54.2 percent from
the floor, and made 5 of 9 three-pointers. In addition, the Scots
committed just 12 turnovers while forcing 18.
Conklin, one of two freshmen in Edinboros
starting lineup, made 9 of 14 field goals for her 18 points,
adding 6 rebounds and a season-high 7 steals while playing all 40
minutes. Sherred ended the evening with 16 points, making 4 of 6
three-pointers. Kelly Calderone and Samantha Reimer chipped in
with 15 points apiece. Calderone, who was honored in pre-game
ceremonies along with fellow senior Agnieszka Michalow, moved into
fourth place in career scoring with 1,431 points. She added 6
rebounds and 7 assists. Reimer had 6 assists. Rachel Johnson was
the fifth Boro player in double digits with 10 points and 6
rebounds.
