EDINBORO, PA Edinboro University head
coach Chris Rhodes couldnt be more thrilled as his mens
and womens swimming teams enter the final day of competition
at the PSAC Swimming Championships. The The PSAC championships are
being held at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, PA.
It is unbelievable how well we
are doing, related the former Edinboro All-American after
day three of the event. I never expected this type of
performance. The women were even in fifth place several times this
evening. I dont think we can catch Bloomsburg because they
have too much depth. The guys are in a dogfight for fourth place
and well see if they can hold on. The teams are representing
the Boro well and have made me extremely proud.
The Edinboro mens team holds down fourth
place out of seven teams with 198 points. Indiana(Pa.) is fifth
with 187.5 points and Kutztown is sixth with 183 points. On the
womens side, Edinboro has a total of 183 points, good for
sixth place. Bloomsburg resides in fifth place with 200 points. A
total of 13 teams are in the womens competition.
Five-time All-American Brooke Heath
(Woodstock, ONT/Ingersoll District II) picked up her second
second place finish of the championships, finishing second in the
100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.45. West Chesters
Kathrin Dumitru was first (1:02.62). Heath finished second in the
100-yard breaststroke a year ago, and was third as a freshman. In
addition to Heath, sophomore Whitney Henry (North East, PA/North
East) made the finals, placing eighth with a time of 1:09.07.
Brandon Davidson (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey
Shore) narrowly missed earning All-PSAC honors with a fifth
place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore fell just
shy of breaking the school record in the prelims with a time of
52.99, then came back and swam a 53.03 in the finals. The school
record is 52.82.
The womens 200-yard medley relay team of
Desiree Thomas (Broadview Heights, OH/North Royalton),
Heath, Amy Corbran (Warren, PA/Warren), and Samantha
Sustrich (Venetia, PA/Peters Twp.) bettered their own record
with a time of 1:50.38, good for fifth place.
The mens 200-yard medley relay team of
Davidson, Derek Sapp (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Jon
Williams (Harrisburg, PA/Riverside), and Josh Corbran
(Warren, PA/Warren) also placed fifth. Their time was 1:38.49.
