EDINBORO, PA The Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference announced its 2006-07 All-PSAC Mens
Basketball Teams today, with a pair of Edinboro University players
recognized. Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) was a
first team selection, while Curtis Ingram (Youngstown, OH/
Cardinal Mooney) was accorded second team honors.
Lock Havens Billy Arre was recognized as
the Mens Western Division Athlete of the Year, with Gerald
Brooks of Indiana(Pa.) voted the Rookie of the Year and Bill Brown
of California(Pa.) the Coach of the Year.
This marks the second straight year Tielsch has
been named to the All-PSAC Western Division First Team. The 68,
230 lb. forward concluded a brilliant three-year career by leading
the Fighting Scots both in scoring (16.5 ppg.) and rebounding (9.4
rpg.). He stands fifth in the PSAC in scoring and second in
rebounding, after leading the conference in rebounding a year ago.
Tielsch shot a team-high 50.5 percent from the
floor, ranking 15th in the PSAC, making 185 of 366 field goal
attempts. He added 91 free throws in 184 attempts. The 184
attempts ranks fourth in the season record books. A year ago he
set the standard with 210 attempts. In addition, Tielsch stood
second on the team in assists (54) and blocked shots (28) and was
third in steals (33).
The former transfer from Penn State led the
Fighting Scots in scoring 14 times and was the top rebounder on 20
occasions. He had 12 double-doubles and scored in double figures
in 25 of 29 games.
Tielsch helped Edinboro to a 64-27 record
during his three seasons. He departs ranking among the top scorers
and rebounders all-time. He departs ranking eighth in career
scoring (1,377 points) and eighth in career rebounds (739). In
addition, he is second in career free throws attempted (531) and
tenth in career free throws made (268). Tielsch concluded his
career with a typical effort in Edinboros 65-55 PSAC
semifinal loss to Millersville on Friday, scoring 23 points and
pulling down 13 rebounds.
He averaged 18.7 ppg. a year ago, adding 9.5
rpg., leading Edinboro to a 21-10 record and a berth in the NCAA
Division II Playoffs. In his first season at Edinboro in 2004-05,
Tielsch averaged 13.4 ppg. and 7.2 rpg. as the Fighting Scots went
to the NCAA Playoffs with a 24-7 record.
Like Tielsch, Ingram began his career on the
Division I level before coming to Edinboro. A 63, 196
lb. guard, he played two seasons at Wofford before joining the
Fighting Scots in 2005-06. Like Tielsch, he was a main reason
Edinboro finished with 20 wins and won its second straight PSAC
title, averaging 13.1 ppg. and 5.3 rpg.
Ingram enjoyed very similar numbers this year,
averaging 13.1 ppg. and 4.8 rpg., but theres no question he
enjoyed an even better season as a senior. While finishing as the
second-leading scorer, he made 140 of 329 field goal attempts
(42.6 percent), including 37 of 111 three-pointers, and shot a
team-high 76.8 percent from the line (63 of 82).
Ingram concluded his career with a string of 12
straight games in double figures, including a career-high 31-point
effort against Clarion, making 7 of 9 three-pointers. He scored in
double figures in 24 of 29 games and was the leading scorer on
three occasions. In his two seasons, Ingram scored a total of 748
points.
While too many times scoring can be how a
player is judged, Ingram was a productive scorer whos true
value was on the defensive end of the floor. He was assigned to
guard the top scorers in the PSAC, and more often shut them down.
Edinboro ended the season this past weekend
with a 65-55 loss to Millersville in the PSAC semifinals. That
snapped a string of two straight PSAC titles and gave the Fighting
Scots a 19-10 record. |
