EDINBORO, PA Edinboro University senior
Daren Tielsch (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) has earned a spot
on the 2007 Daktronics Mens Basketball All-East Region
second team. Tielsch was earlier named to the All-PSAC West first
team for the second straight year.
The 68, 230 lb. forward concluded a
brilliant three-year career by leading the Fighting Scots both in
scoring (16.5 ppg.) and rebounding (9.4 rpg.). He stands fifth in
the PSAC in scoring and second in rebounding, after leading the
conference in rebounding a year ago.
Tielsch shot a team-high 50.5 percent from the
floor, ranking 15th in the PSAC, making 185 of 366 field goal
attempts. He added 91 free throws in 184 attempts. The 184
attempts ranks fourth in the season record books. A year ago he
set the standard with 210 attempts. In addition, Tielsch stood
second on the team in assists (54) and blocked shots (28) and was
third in steals (33).
The former transfer from Penn State led the
Fighting Scots in scoring 14 times and was the top rebounder on 20
occasions. He had 12 double-doubles and scored in double figures
in 25 of 29 games.
Tielsch helped Edinboro to a 64-27 record
during his three seasons. He departs ranking among the top scorers
and rebounders all-time. He departs ranking eighth in career
scoring (1,377 points) and eighth in career rebounds (739). In
addition, he is second in career free throws attempted (531) and
tenth in career free throws made (268). Tielsch concluded his
career with a typical effort in Edinboros 65-55 PSAC
semifinal loss to Millersville on Friday, scoring 23 points and
pulling down 13 rebounds.
He averaged 18.7 ppg. a year ago, adding 9.5
rpg., leading Edinboro to a 21-10 record and a berth in the NCAA
Division II Playoffs. In his first season at Edinboro in 2004-05,
Tielsch averaged 13.4 ppg. and 7.2 rpg. as the Fighting Scots went
to the NCAA Playoffs with a 24-7 record. |
