Rolling Scots Upset #2 Ranked Illinois, Face Wisconsin-Whitewater for National Championship

EDINBORO, PA – The 30th Annual National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament continued at Edinboro University. The day’s action was capped of by a big time match-up between Edinboro (3) and Illinois (2). Thanks to a big second half, Edinboro was able to pull off the upset winning 58-41.

Illinois took the lead early, starting the game with an 8-2 run. Early in the first half, Illinois was able to build their led to 11 points with the score 23-12. Edinboro fought back into the contest and closed on the half with an 11-2 run of their own. Despite the Edinboro run, Illinois was still able to keep a three-point advantage going into the second half, 25-22

At the 14:23 mark in the second half, Edinboro forced the first tie of the ballgame 33-33. With the game going back and forth for the next few minutes, Edinboro took their first led of the game with 10:25 left to go, 39-37. Edinboro pulled away from Illinois by capping off a 12-4 run with two free throws by freshmen Tommie Gray (5 points and 9 rebounds).

Edinboro was led by Mike Looney (19), Jose Leep (11), and Bryce Doody (9).

Illinois Steve Serio had the game high with 22 points.

Edinboro plays Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. The Rolling Scots will be chasing its first national title ever, when they play top-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater.
