Lanzel Impresses in 5000-Meter Run at Wake Forest Open
Junior Places Fifth in 5,000-Meter Run

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams are competing in the Wake Forest Open this weekend in Winston-Salem, NC. In Friday’s action a member of the women’s team turned in one of the top performances by a Division II runner at the event.

Rachael Lanzel finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run, easily the top showing in the event by a non-Division I competitor. In fact, her time of 17:28.67 is an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. The runners in front of her competed for Ohio University, Davidson, North Carolina State, and Virginia.

In addition to Lanzel, freshman Kailey Harvey finished 20th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:44.01, and freshman Kristine Beringer was 33rd (19:17.77).

The Wake Forest Open continues on Saturday.

Three men competed for the Fighting Scots. Eric Brenner placed 26th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:32.43. In the 100-meter dash, Kyle Wunz was 41st with a time of 10.99. An in the 800-meter run, David Blend was 63rd (1:58.75).
