EDINBORO, PA Edinboro Universitys
Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) has been named the
PSAC West Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 1, 2007.
The junior was a busy hurler during the week, throwing in a total
of five games, all complete games, for the week.
All told, she went 3-2 with a 0.83 ERA. In 33
2/3 innings, she gave up 31 hits while walking just one batter and
striking out 30. During one stretch she hurled 24 straight
scoreless innings while posting three straight shutouts.
It started with a 5-0 win over Slippery Rock in
the first game of a doubleheader on Friday. She struck out 12
while scattering six hits. She also hurled a shutout in the
nightcap, going all five innings in an 8-0 win, giving up two hits
and striking out seven.
The next day Edinboro traveled to
California(Pa.), long a PSAC West powerhouse. The left hander
posted her third straight shutout with a 1-0 win over the Vulcans.
She threw a three-hitter and struck out three. Rose appeared on
her way to a fourth straight shutout in the second game, but Cal
got to her for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning,
although only two were earned. Edinboro would lose 6-1.
In her first game of the week, Rose was a
hard-luck 2-1 loser at Walsh. After throwing eight shutout
innings, she got the first two outs of the ninth inning before
giving up three straight hits and a pair of runs for a 2-1
setback.
Rose currently owns a deceiving 6-5 record with
a 1.81 ERA. In 73 2/3 innings, she has allowed 63 hits and eight
walks while striking out 83. Rose has moved into third place in
career strikeouts with 286.
Edinboro, 10-10 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC
West, returns to action on Tuesday, April 3, hosting local rival
Gannon in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
