Softball Team Takes Two From Clarion

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University softball team snapped a seven-game losing streak and extended Clarion’s losing stein to 13 straight games with a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Golden Eagles on Thursday. Edinboro improved to 12-16 overall and 5-5 in PSAC West action. Clarion is now 4-16 and 0-10, respectively.

The Fighting Scots won the first game by an 8-0 score in sixth innings, as Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) tossed her fifth shutout of the year. Edinboro prevailed in the nightcap 6-3, with Dana Webb (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) going 3-4 and adding 4 RBI.

Game one started off with Edinboro’s Webb RBI single, scoring Katelyn Gurgiolo (Stow, OH/ Medina) in the bottom of the first. The Fighting Scots would go on to add one is the second and two in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Danielle Arno (Manilius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) hit her sixth home run in the third inning, tying the season record held by Heather Clark (1996). Rose had another dominated outing, going sixth innings with eight strikeouts.

Webb started game two with a solo home run to put the Fighting Scots up 1-0. Clarion would come back in the top of the second when Angela Sterner hit a two RBI double. Edinboro came right back in the third with a RBI double by Webb. The Fighting Scots added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach. Jessica Lindamood (Hartville, OH/Lake) pitch a solid game for the Fighting Scots going seven innings with sixth strikeouts, allowing only three runs on nine hits.

This marks the first of four straight days with doubleheaders for the Fighting Scots as they attempt to make up for a string of recent postponements. Edinboro hosts defending national champion and top-ranked Lock Haven on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
