EDINBORO, PA Edinboro University pitcher
Vanessa Rose (Akron, OH/Manchester) has been named to the
NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team. Edinboro
participated in its first-ever NCAA playoffs over the weekend. The
Fighting Scots enjoyed a very successful run during the regional,
going 2-2.
Rose, a junior lefthander, threw all four games
for the Fighting Scots. In 28 innings, she gave up 22 hits and
four walks while striking out 37. All told she allowed six runs,
four of those coming in a 4-2 loss to East Stroudsburg that
eliminated the Fighting Scots on Sunday. She allowed seven hits
and struck out eight as Edinboro finished with a 21-22 record.
Edinboro entered the tournament as the seventh
seed and opened with a 2-0 upset of second- seeded Kutztown. Rose
scattered five hits, walked three and struck out nine. Next came a
1-0 loss in eight innings to Bloomsburg, the third-seed. She
allowed five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. In Edinboros
third game, Rose led the Fighting Scots to a 2-1 win over
Shippensburg, the fifth seed. She gave up five hits and struck out
12, one shy of her career high.
Rose rest several records this season. She
finished with a 15-16 record and a 1.91 ERA. The wins rank third
in the season records. She set new school records for innings
pitched (202.0) and strikeouts (234). In addition, she has moved
into third place in career wins (30) and second in innings pitched
(410 2/3) and strikeouts (437).
