Official Press Release

Edinboro Ranked 25th by Street & Smith’s
July 3, 2007

EDINBORO, PA – The Edinboro University football team will enter the 2007 campaign ranked 25th in Division II according to Street & Smith’s 2007 College Football Yearbook. The Fighting Scots come off a 6-5 season in their first season under head coach Scott Browning.

Street & Smith’s commented, “Edinboro (6-5) looks to bounce back from a mediocre season that saw Trevor Harris emerge as one of the best PSAC quarterbacks. Harris threw for 2,547 yards and 20 TDs, and this year tight end Kyle Witucki should be one of his favorite targets.”

Browning was pleased with the selection, but knows his young team has a lot of work to do to live up to such lofty expectations.

“It’s always nice to receive national recognition,” noted Browning. “I think we have the makings of a very good team, but there’s a lot of things that have to fall into place. We have seven starters to replace on defense, and on offense we have to re-establish our identity as a team capable of running the football. I know I can’t wait for fall camp to start.”

Edinboro is one of four PSAC teams in Street & Smith’s Preseason Top 25, and the other three teams are all on the 2007 Fighting Scots’ schedule. Bloomsburg is ranked tenth. The Fighting Scots will play at Bloomsburg on September 15. West Chester, rated 16th, is Edinboro’s season opener, as the two will meet on September 1. Finally, Western Division rival California(Pa.) is ranked 24th. Edinboro will travel to Cal on October 20.

Harris, a 6’3”, 210 lb. sophomore, is one of nine starters returning on offense. He enjoyed a record-breaking first season as a starter, setting season records for yards passing, attempts and completions. Witucki, a 6’3”, 255 lb. senior tight end, is the leading returning receiver with 35 receptions for 455 yards and 5 TDs. He’ll likely see more passes come his way in 2007 with leading receiver Ryan Valasek (64 rec., 1,032 yards) gone.
