EDINBORO, PA The Edinboro University mens
and womens cross country teams came out on top of Fredonia
State on Saturday in the annual Edinboro Rag Relays. It marked
Edinboros 125th straight dual meet win.
On the mens side, the Edinboro Orange
threesome of Dave Niemira (Strongsville, OH/ Strongsville),
Josh Arthur (Turin, NY/South Lewis Central) and Ben
Hahn (Smethport, PA/ Smethport Area) combined for a record
time of 54:22, breaking the previous record of 54:36. Each runner
covered four laps, with Arthur the individual winner at 17:54.
Niemira came in at 18:09, with Hahn, a freshman who was a PIAA
state champion a year ago, not far behind at 18:19.
Edinboros second and third teams also
bested Fredonia State. The Edinboro Blue team, comprised of Nick
Hankins (Pepper Pike, OH/Orange) (18:24), Barry McLaughlin
(Sharpsville, PA/ West Middlesex) (18:44), and Eric Benner
(Wooster, OH/Wooster) (18:58) combined for a time of 56:06.
The Edinboro Pink team of Andy Thoman (Strongsville,
OH/Strongsville) (18:53), Chris Lantinen (Gasport,
NY/Barker Central) (19:09) and Kyle Jones (Pittsfield,
PA/Youngsville) (19:21) was third with a combined time of
57:22.
In the womens race, the Fighting Scots
had the top two teams, with Rachael Lanzel (St. Marys, PA/St.
Marys Area) finishing as the individual winner with a time of
16:15. The women took three laps around the course. Lanzel paced
the Edinboro Orange team to a first place finish. She teamed with
Kristine Beringer (Lockport, NY/Lockport), who was second
individually at 16:49, and Ashley Ferraro (Erie, PA/Central),
who placed fifth at 17:13. The total time was 50:17. The Edinboro
Purple team was second with a time of 51:40. Amber Sanders
(Batavia, NY/Batavia) finished third overall with a time of
16:53, followed by Erica Bourgeois (Boonville, NY/Adirondack
Central) (17:11), who was fourth, and Becca Nungesser
(Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) (17:36), who came in 17th.
