EDINBORO, PA Playing four brutal matches
in an eight-day span, the Edinboro womens soccer team
improved to 5-2-2 with a 1-0 overtime win at Shippensburg on
Saturday. Shippensburg fell to 6-4-0. The Fighting Scots came into
the match ranked fifth in the Northeast Region, while the Lady
Raiders were ninth.
The match went into overtime after ninety
minutes without a score. Edinboro nearly came away with the win in
the first minute, but Angie de Almeidas (Gibsonia,
PA/Pine-Richland) shot hit the post. The Fighting Scots scored
the game-winner at the 99:37 mark on Ashley Jones (Erie,
PA/Fairview) free kick. It was the juniors first goal of
the year.
Edinboro outshot Shippensburg 16-7. Lisa
Bartolowits (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) recorded her first
shutout of the season goal, recording a pair of saves.
The Fighting Scots return to action on
Wednesday, September 26, hosting Indiana(Pa.). Edinboro upset IUP,
2-1, earlier in the year.
