EDINBORO, PA Edinboros Universitys
Trevor Harris (Waldo, OH/Marion Pleasant) and Dan
Skelton (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) were recognized by the
Football Gazette for their play in Saturdays 33-18
victory at Shippensburg. That boosted Edinboros record to
4-1.
Harris was one of several players named the
Football Gazette NCAA Division II Offensive Players of the
Week. Skelton, meanwhile, was in a group of four players
recognized as the Football Gazette NCAA Division II Defensive
Players of the Week. It marked the second straight week Skelton
has received the award.
For Harris, it marked the second time the 63,
205 lb. quarterback had been honored. The sophomore turned in a
record-setting performance. He completed a school-record 33
passes, breaking his own record set last year against
Shippensburg, while tying the school record for attempts with 44.
He threw for 331 yards and 3 TDs, marking the fourth straight game
and eighth time in 16 career contests that he has thrown
three-or-more touchdown passes in a game. The 331 yards passing
are the sixth-highest total for a game, and he had 337 yards in
total offense, tied for sixth all-time.
Harris is enjoying a record-breaking season. He
has already thrown for 1,267 yards with 16 TDs and just 3 INTs in
five games. The touchdowns passing figure is already tied for
ninth in a season. He has climbed into fifth place in career
passing yards (3,814), and also stands fourth in career pass
completions (310) and eighth in career pass attempts (479). In 16
career games, he has thrown 36 touchdown passes.
Skelton continues to make a big impression as a
freshman. The 59, 176 lb. strong safety made his third
career start a memorable one, as he scored his first career
touchdown on a 77-yard interception return with just under two
minutes to play. The electrifying run, which saw him field a
tipped pass in the middle of the field, then go down the right
sideline before cutting across field to the left sideline and
elude two Shippensburg tacklers, staved off a potential tying
drive by the Red Raiders. Skelton finished the day with 7 tackles,
5 of those solo, including a sack for minus 13 yards.
Despite not playing in the opener and seeing
limited action in week number two, Skelton ranks second on the
team in tackles with 32, with a pair of sacks and a team-leading 3
interceptions. The 77-yard interception return is the
seventh-longest in school history.
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, October
6, hosting Lock Haven in the annual Homecoming Game. Kickoff is
set for 2:00 p.m.
