The Department of Communication and Media Studies offers two undergraduate degrees (Journalism/Mass Communication and Communication Studies) and a master's degree (Communication Studies).

The department is an active and visible component of Edinboro University and continues each semester to grow more diverse and exemplary. Department faculty members possess a broad range of professional and academic credentials, but the learning in the department takes place as much outside of the classroom as it does inside. Students can become involved in a variety of activities including our campus media organizations, PRSSA chapter, Lambda Pi Eta honor society, and the annual Edinboro Highland Games. A Distinguished Lecture Series regularly brings prominent guests to campus, with recent participants including several award-winning journalists, two former U.S. congressmen, the vice president for communication and marketing at one of the nation’s top graduate business schools, and the U.S. Army’s deputy chief of public affairs. The Department also hosts the annual Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Journalism Competition and the annual Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Public Speaking Competition.
