Art Scholarships

ALUMNI DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP/ART

The Alumni Departmental Scholarship/Art is offered to an art major who has completed 32 or more credit hours of study and whose QPA is 3.2 or greater. This award may be renewable for up to three years as long as the recipient continues to maintain a 3.2 or greater QPA. Financial need is not a factor.

 

ART DEPARTMENT AWARD

This scholarship is awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters to a full-time student who is majoring in Art.  This scholarship shall be awarded to a student who has earned a minimum of 64 credits with a cumulative QPA of 3.0. A written recommendation from an Edinboro Art Department faculty member must be submitted.

 

RALPH AND MILDRED BRUCE ART SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to students majoring in art education. Ralph and Mildred Bruce were faculty members at the University for many years and were committed to the overall development of students.  The recipient must be enrolled full-time (12 or more credits) and have a cumulative QPA of 3.5 or better with a minimum of 48 credits. The scholarship is renewable through the completion of 128 credits on the condition that the student maintains a cumulative QPA of 3.5, continues to major in art education and demonstrates academic progress as determined by federal financial aid guidelines. Financial need may be a factor.

 

ANTHONY J. CHRZANOWSKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Known and beloved by many, Mr. Chrzanowski was well respected for his community involvement and for his caring and cheerful personality.  His sons David and Mark, along with friends and family, are establishing this scholarship not only to honor and cherish the memory of Mr. Chrzanowski, but also to encourage the same commitment to education, community involvement, and enthusiasm for helping others that he demonstrated during his life.  The recipient of this award must be an entering freshman pursing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in either Applied/Media Arts.  Preference will be given to a student from Erie County, Pennsylvania.  This scholarship may be renewable through the completion of 120 credits provided the student maintains an overall cumulative QPA of 3.00 or better.  The individual must be enrolled on a full-time basis during both the Fall and Spring semesters.  Financial need is a factor.

 

AMIE’ H. DOUCETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awards are made to an Art major who has a minimum of 64 earned credits and a cumulative minimum QPA of 3.0.  The Art Department Faculty is involved in the selection process.  Financial need may be a factor if there are multiple candidates with identical credentials.

 

ECLECTIC ETCETERAS COFFEE HOUSE ARTS AND CRAFTS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in the area of Fine Arts and Crafts (Ceramics, Drawing, Jewelry/Metalsmithing, Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, Textile Design, Weaving/Fibers, Wood/Furniture).  The student must be enrolled full-time for the Spring semester, have a minimum QPA of 2.0, and possess a minimum of 64 earned credits.  Financial need is not a factor.

 

GEORGE FERGUSON AWARD

This scholarship was developed by Ms. Donna Nicholas and friends of the Art Department in memory of George Ferguson, who taught in the Art Department from 1960 to 1968.  The annual award is made to students at the Spring Student Art Exhibition, coordinated by the Bruce Gallery.  Work is judged solely on artistic ability and some or all of the entries may be displayed in the Bates Gallery or Bruce Gallery.

 

MICHAEL V. GMITTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was created by the friends and family of Michael V. Gmitter to honor his memory and to encourage the same passion and commitment to art that Michael demonstrated.  The recipient must be pursuing a degree in the area of Fine Arts and Crafts (Ceramics, Drawing, Jewelry/Metalsmithing, Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, Textile Design, Weaving/Fibers, Wood/Furniture, be enrolled full-time for the Spring semester, have a minimum QPA of 2.0, and possess of minimum of 64 earned credits.  Financial need is not a factor. 

 

GERALD AND WILLIAM JACKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Helen Jackson, the wife of Gerald and the mother of William, along with friends, family, and colleagues, established this scholarship in memory of Gerald and William Jackson, and also to encourage the same commitment to education, community involvement, and enthusiasm for living that they both demonstrated during their lives.  The student must be an Art or English and Theatre Arts major, with a QPA average of 2.5 or above, having completed two consecutive semesters of a four-year program.  The student must be enrolled in the Edinboro University Act 101 Program and have at least one parent of African-American descent.

 

ART AND PAT JARVIS FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was developed by Art and Pat Jarvis, who graduated from Edinboro State College in 1949.  Art earned a degree in Physics and Pat earned a degree in Art.  One award will be provided annually if a satisfactory applicant can be identified.  The annual award will alternate yearly between a Physics major and Art Education major.  The eligible candidate must be enrolling in a degree-seeking program for the first time and meet the minimum academic standards for enrollment, which include general scholarship, character, interest, and motivation as may be determined by official scholastic records, aptitude tests, recommendations, and interviews.  Financial need may be considered, but is not a limiting factor.  The student is encouraged to apply for federal financial aid.

 

KATZWINKEL ART SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded during the Fall and Spring semesters to an art student with concentrations in jewelry/metalsmithing or teacher education. It was developed by Mr. Henry Katzwinkel, a 1956 alumnus who taught courses in the Art Department for more than 32 years.  The recipient must be entering his/her junior year, be enrolled full-time, and have 64 to 95 earned credits with a cumulative QPA of 3.25 or higher. Financial need may be a factor. If there are multiple students with identical credentials and artistic talent, the student with the greatest need will be awarded. This scholarship is not renewable. A jewelry/metalsmithing faculty member in the Art Department must be a part of the selection process.

 

KEN KOPIN ART SCHOLARSHIP

Mr. Ken Kopin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art education from Edinboro University in 1961 and was a beloved art teacher in the Erie School District for many years.  This scholarship was established to honor Mr. Kopin and to encourage student’s commitment to education and art.  The recipient of this award must be a full-time Art major, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, having earned a minimum of 60 credits and a minimum 3.0 QPA.  Preference will be given to an inner-city public school student from the City of Erie.  Financial need is a factor. 

 

DONNA NICHOLAS SCHOLARSHIP FOR CERAMICS

This scholarship was established by friends of Donna Nicholas and the ceramics department faculty to provide financial assistance for students pursuing a degree in ceramic arts and to encourage their commitment to education and art as demonstrated by Donna.  The recipient must be a full-time Ceramics Arts major and have a minimum QPA of 3.0.  The student’s artistic ability is a determining factor in the selection process.  Financial need may be a factor.

 

GEORGE H. NICHOLAS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was developed by Ms. Donna Nicholas in honor of her father, George H. Nicholas, who inspired the development of the animation program in the Art Department.  It is awarded to a student majoring in one of the Art programs.  Faculty member(s) instructing animation in the Art Department will choose the recipients.  The student's animation and/or artistic ability is part of the selection process.  The recipient must be enrolled in 6 or more credits per semester, have earned a minimum of 64 credits, and have a cumulative QPA of at least 2.5. Financial need may be a factor. This scholarship is not renewable.

 

RILEY/AMIDON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides an award to an incoming freshman, sophomore, junior or senior (in that order).  At the time of enrollment, the student’s home address should be Edinboro, PA. The recipient must be an art, art education, or nursing major.  In the event of multiple candidates, financial need, highest SAT (minimum of 900) or equivalent, and highest class rank shall become factors.  This award may be renewable for up to four academic years, provided a minimum of 3.0 cumulative QPA is maintained.

 

DAVE WEINKAUF CINEMA SCHOLARSHIP

Dave Weinkauf, along with friends of the cinema program, has established this endowment to provide financial support to Edinboro University students studying film, video and animation.  Dave Weinkauf was a professor in the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Art Department for 37 years, where he created and administered the University’s program in cinema (film, video, animation).  The recipient must be pursing a degree in the area of Applied/Media Arts with an emphasis in cinema.  The student must have a minimum of 64 earned credits and a cumulative QPA of 2.5.  The student must be enrolled in 6 or more credits per semester.  Students meeting these qualifications may apply for the scholarship.  The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be chosen by member(s) of the Cinema faculty.  The scholarship will be awarded to a student(s) concentrating in live-action film/video.  Financial need may be a factor.  The scholarship is not renewable.

 

THOMAS AND CLAUDIA ZAHORCHAK ART SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded to an Art major (Art History, Applied Media Arts, Fine Arts/Crafts, or Art Education major) with at least 30 credits that has a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0.  Students must complete an application for the scholarship award.  An art department election committee appointed by the Department Chair will conduct the scholarship award process.  The scholarship award is renewable.
