Athletic Scholarships

NANCY J. ACKER ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides awards to an entering female, freshman athlete who exhibited academic achievement while in high school.  This scholarship is renewable for a total of four years as long as the recipient remains an athlete in good standing and maintains a QPA of 2.0 or greater. 

 

ALUMNI ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS (MINOR SPORTS)

Three scholarships are awarded to minor sports participants (men's/women's swimming, softball, baseball, tennis, cross country, track) who have completed a minimum 30 credit hours of study and whose QPA is 2.7 or greater.  These scholarships are renewable for up to three years providing the recipients remain active in their respective sports programs and continue to maintain a 2.7 or greater cumulative QPA. Financial need is preferred.

 

ALUMNI FOOTBALL PLAYERS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is offered annually to an entering freshman who is a member of the Edinboro University football team.  The recipient must have a minimum SAT score of 700 (14 ACT) and a high school QPA of 2.0 or greater, in addition to being a high-impact player.

 

GARY AND TERRI ASTORINO WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides funds to an incoming freshman or upperclass student who resides in Pennsylvania, is a member of the wrestling team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the Athletic Director, multiple awards may be given.  This scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

ATHLETES OF THE 50’S SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by a group of alumni who refer to themselves as the Athletes of the 50’s to promote and encourage the same athletic spirit as displayed by this remarkable group.  The individual selected must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship may provide multiple awards and may only be awarded for the Fall and/or Spring semesters.  Financial need is a factor.

 

ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME SCHOLARSHIP

Members of the Edinboro University Athletic Hall of Fame are a unique group, honored for their athletic accomplishments, contributions to society and community, and their demonstration of unparalleled energy in support of Fighting Scots athletics.  This scholarship has been established not only as a tribute to Edinboro University Hall of Fame athletes, but also to encourage the same commitment to education and community involvement to current student-athletes, in and out of the classroom.  The scholarship will rotate in the following order: football, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, wrestling, women’s cross country, women’s swimming, men’s cross country, softball, men’s swimming, and adaptive athletics.  The scholarship recipient will be selected by the head coach of the designated team and must meet and maintain NCAA eligibility requirements.  Preference will be given to children or grandchildren of Hall of Fame members.  The scholarship may provide multiple awards and may only be awarded for the Fall and/or Spring semesters.   

 

J. JUDE BASILE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a member of the women's basketball team.

 

GEORGE BAUMANN/A. CARL SANTOS MEMORIAL WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was created by Mr. Joseph Baumann and Mr. Richard Santos to support the athletic program at Edinboro University.  It is awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclassman who is a member of the wrestling team.  The student must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  Renewable based on the discretion of the coach and University policy.  Two or more annual awards may be given at the discretion of the coaches based on the scholarship “interest” account balance.

 

BRUCE BAUMGARTNER WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a qualified wrestler attending Edinboro University who has attained academic achievement and meets NCAA requirements for eligibility.  The coach identifies the student.  This scholarship is renewable based on the discretion of the coach and University policy.

 

PAUL M. BELOSH AND FAMILY ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides financial assistance to student athletes and will rotate in the following order: football, women’s basketball, football, and men’s basketball.  In the event a sport declines, the scholarship award will be made to the next eligible sport in the rotation.  The recipient of this award must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship may provide multiple awards and may only be awarded for the Fall and/or Spring semesters. 

 

BLUE CROSS OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA WRESTLING

This scholarship is awarded to a qualified wrestler attending Edinboro University who has attained academic achievement. The coach identifies the student.

 

BROWNING FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Scott Browning has been a football coach at Edinboro University for more than 20 years, and his four brothers, Charles, Rick, Mitchell and Bradley, are all avid supporters of Edinboro’s football team.  The establishment of this scholarship demonstrates the Browning’s dedication to Edinboro University football and higher education with the intention of providing financial assistance to student-athletes.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman, transfer, or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Football Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters

 

ART BUDZOWSKI ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship, renewable for a maximum of four years, is awarded to an incoming freshman male or female athlete who is a resident of Erie County, PA; preference given to graduates of Girard High School.  The recipient must maintain a 2.0 or greater QPA, be enrolled full-time, and continue to participate in the Edinboro University varsity athletic program.  Financial need may be a factor. 

 

COACH FRED J. CARO SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF DENNIS BAKER

Dennis Baker was an enthusiastic and competitive wrestler at Edinboro University for four years This scholarship was created by the Fighting Scots Wrestlers, classes 1963-1964 to 1983-1984, in honor of Coach Fred J. Caro and Dennis Baker in order to promote and encourage the same kind of athletic spirit they showed.  This award will be given to an incoming freshman.

 

KIM CLARK MEMORIAL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This award was funded by friends of Kim Clark, an avid sportsman and former Edinboro University student.  It is awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University football team or a minor sport team and meets all NCAA requirements and maintains NCAA eligibility.  It is renewable for a maximum of four years based on the discretion of the coach and University policy.  Preference is given to individuals who reside in Erie or Crawford counties; however, if there are no candidates from the aforementioned counties who qualify, the scholarship can be awarded to anyone who meets all the other requirements.  Two or more annual awards may be given at the discretion of the coaches and will be based on the amount of funds available.

 

GRACE CROWE ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is made available to three entering freshmen who are minor sports participants.  The student must be participating in one of the following sports:  men's/women's swimming, tennis, track, and baseball or softball; have a SAT score of 900 (or an ACT score equivalent); graduated in the top 40% of his/her high school class; exhibit high academic achievement; enroll full-time (12 or more credits).

 

DINING SERVIES ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

An annual award will be made to incoming freshmen participating in a minor sports program.  The minor sport(s) will be selected each year by the Athletic Director based on departmental need.  The recipient must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  Financial need is a factor.

 

DUBIN FAMILY WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman, upperclass, or transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA, PSAC, and University requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  This scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

EDINBORO UNIVERSITY COACHES SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides financial assistance to student athletes participating in one of the University’s 17 intercollegiate sports teams: men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, swimming, tennis, track, wrestling; women’s basketball, cross country, softball, swimming, tennis, track, soccer and volleyball.  It will be rotated each year.  This scholarship provides an annual award to an incoming freshman or upperclassman.  The recipient must be a full-time student and meet all NCAA eligibility requirements.

 

MILIAN (BILL) ENGH ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a student who is an active participant on the football team, who meets a minimum of all NCAA requirements and maintains NCAA eligibility.  Renewable based on the discretion of the coach and University policy, this scholarship may be received for a maximum of four years and is awarded during the Fall and Spring semester.

 

ERIE BOTTLING COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a freshman varsity athlete who is in the upper 2/5 of his or her high school graduating class and has a minimum SAT score of 900.  The recipient must be a resident of Erie or Crawford County; financial need may be a factor. 

 

DR. HERBERT V. FERSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be a freshman criminal justice major participating in an intercollegiate sport with SAT scores of 1000, an ACT composite of 22, or is in the top 25% of their high school graduating class.  Financial need may be a factor.

 

FIGHTING SCOTS MEN’S TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is offered annually to a member of the men’s tennis team and is renewable for a maximum of three years provided the recipient continues to meet NCAA eligibility requirements and maintains a cumulative QPA of 2.5.  The student must be enrolled full-time for a minimum of 12 credits per semester, be on the active roster, and participating in competition.  If there are multiple students with identical credentials and athletic talent, the student with the greatest residual need should be awarded. 

 

FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE 60’S SCHOLARSHIP

The football players of the 1960’s are a close group of alumni and strong supporters of the Edinboro University football program.  They are establishing this scholarship in tribute and honor of the Edinboro University Football Players of the 1960’s and to promote and encourage the same athletic spirit as displayed by this outstanding group of athletes.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Football Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  This scholarship may only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

FRIENDS OF SOCCER ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends and alumni of the Edinboro University Soccer and Athletic programs. The individual selected (incoming freshman, transfer or upperclassman) is a member of the Edinboro University Soccer Team and must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility, and multiple awards may be given.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

FRIENDS OF SWIMMING ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends and alumni of the Edinboro University Swimming and Athletic programs.  The individual selected (incoming freshman, transfer or upperclassman) is a member of the Edinboro University Swimming Team and must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility, and multiple awards may be given.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

FRIENDS OF WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends and alumni of the Edinboro University Wheelchair Basketball and Athletic programs.  The individual selected (incoming freshman, transfer or upperclassman) is a member of the Edinboro University Wheelchair Basketball Team and must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility, and multiple awards may be given.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

FRIENDS OF WRESTLING ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming Freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.

 

DAN GABLE WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

DR. BRIAN AND BRITTA GEAR WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

Brian Gear graduated in 1992 from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration.  A former wrestler, he has fond memories of his years on the University wrestling team.  This scholarship is representative not only of the Gears’ generosity, but their wish to provide increased support to deserving student athletes.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  Preference will be made to a wrestling student who is a resident of Florida.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

JOHN GILLETTE MEMORIAL FUND

This scholarship will provide two awards annually: one to a track athlete and one to a football athlete, at the discretion of the respective coach.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman, transfer, or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Football/Track team and meets eligibility NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  This scholarship may only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

GILTINAN-OVERHEIM ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to minor and major intercollegiate sports programs on an alternating basis.  The student must be an incoming full-time freshman of transfer student enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits per semester, and must be “actively” participating in an intercollegiate sport during the Fall and/or Spring semester.  The student must meet minimum NCAA eligibility requirements and cannot use the scholarship funds to attend summer school/activities.

 

DR. MICHAEL HAHESY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclassmen that is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements. The individual must be a Health and Physical Education major.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five (5) years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility and a minimum QPA of 2.0.

 

CURLY HALMI MEMORIAL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

These scholarships are offered to freshmen athletes who participate in football, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's volleyball or wrestling and who exhibited academic achievement while in high school.  These scholarship awards are renewable for each of four years as long as the recipients remain athletes in good standing.

 

SOX HARRISON SCHOLARSHIP

Three annual scholarships are offered to incoming freshmen athletes.  They are named in honor of the late Sox Harrison who is remembered as "the founding father of Edinboro University's athletic program."

 

DAVE HIGHAM/MARK WALLACE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Dave Higham, a 1987 and 1996 graduate, and Mark Wallace, a 1986 graduate.  The recipient will be an incoming freshman offensive lineman who is a member of the Edinboro University Football Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.

 

JON M. HOUY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by the Katie Kirlin Foundation in honor of Jon M. Houy, a young man who participated in youth wheelchair basketball and who passed away in March of 2005.  The purpose of this scholarship is to support an athlete participating on the Edinboro University Fighting Scots Wheelchair Basketball Team.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman, upperclassman, or transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wheelchair Basketball Team and meets minimum NCAA, PSAC, and University requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of four years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

ELIZABETH JAKOVAC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a member of the football team.

 

FRANK JAKOVAC MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman, unless a freshman does not meet other criteria, then it can go to a sophomore, junior or senior, in that order.  The recipient should be a graduate of either Pine-Richland High School, Stroudsburg High School or from Allegheny County, PA., and be an active football player.  The student must be majoring in the dual major program of elementary education/special education with a minimum cumulative QPA of 2.0, which must be retained for renewal for up to four years.  Financial need is not necessarily a factor, but can be used as a determining factor if needed for selection.

 

K & R INDUSTRIES, INC. SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman or upperclassman who is a member of the University Wrestling Team and meets the minimum NCAA requirements. At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility. At the discretion of the Athletic Director, multiple awards may be given based on the scholarship's accrued interest balance. This scholarship cannot be used for the purpose of attending summer school.

 

KYSOR FAMILY WRESTLING OFFICIAL’S SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclassman who is a member of the wrestling team.  The individual must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.

 

LAMOREAUX FAMILY WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

A former wrestler, Matthew Lamoreaux has fond memories of his years on the University Wrestling Team.  This scholarship is being established in honor and tribute to the Lamoreaux family and to provide increased support to student athletes.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters. 

 

WAYNE AND VIVIAN LIGATO FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Wayne and Vivian Ligato, both alumni of Edinboro University, established this scholarship to provide student athletes with greater opportunity to achieve their educational goals.  Each year, two awards will be made from their scholarship fund and divided equally into women’s swimming and football scholarships.  The recipient must therefore be a member of the Edinboro University football or swimming team and meet minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, multiple awards may be made each year and the award may be renewable for up to five years.  The scholarship should be awarded to those students that will benefit the most from an award, creating a positive difference in his or her academic and/or athletic success.  Financial need may be considered, but is not a determining factor.

 

LIONHEART WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

FRANK LUCCA FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman, upper classman or transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Football Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five (5) years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarships may be divided and offered to multiple recipients.

 

MAGDIK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available to an incoming full-time freshman or transfer student enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits per semester and “actively” participating in one of the following athletic programs: football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, wrestling, baseball, or soccer.  The scholarship shall be awarded in the aforementioned order and shall rotate each year.  If an athletic program cannot identify an eligible student-athlete, the sport next in line shall have the opportunity to receive the funds.  The student must meet minimum NCAA eligibility requirements.  The scholarship award is not renewable and financial aid is not a factor.

 

HANIO (HANK) MARIOTTI MEMORIAL MEN’S WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student (taking a minimum 12 credits per semester) and a member of the men’s wrestling team.  The student must meet all NCAA eligibility requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for each of the three years provided the student maintains a cumulative QPA of 2.50 or better and NCAA eligibility.  The individual must be on the active roster and participating in competition.  If there are multiple students with identical credentials and athletic talent, the student with the greatest residual need should be awarded.

 

JOHN "BUTCH" McBRIDE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship presents an annual award to a student athlete who has exhibited outstanding achievement in a varsity sport, as well as high academic performance.  Financial need is also a factor.

 

DAN M. MCCUE FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclassman that is a member of the Edinboro University football team, meets minimum NCAA requirements and maintains NCAA eligibility.  It is renewable at the discretion of the coach and University policy for a maximum of five years.

 

JAMES K. McDONALD ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

Mr. James McDonald, a former athletic director and men’s basketball coach, created this scholarship to support the Capital Campaign and the athletic program at Edinboro University.  The recipient of this award must be an incoming freshman or upperclassman who is a member of the wrestling team and who meets minimum NCAA requirements and maintains NCAA eligibility. This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years based on the discretion of the coach and University policy.

 

McDONALD'S OF EDINBORO WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a member of the Edinboro University wrestling team who meets all NCAA eligibility requirements. The recipient is identified by the head wrestling coach and must exhibit academic achievement.

 

DALPH S. MCNEIL SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship is to be awarded to any deserving student attending Edinboro University of Pennsylvania from Jefferson or Clarion Counties, Pennsylvania, who is a member of the Edinboro University Track and/or Cross Country Team.

 

DR. GARY MEANS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a freshman that is an active varsity sports participant. The student must meet all NCAA eligibility requirements and must be enrolled in one of the following majors: pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy or pre-veterinary medicine.

 

GARY MESSMER SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an active participant on the wrestling team who has a minimum GPA of a 2.0 and a minimum SAT score of 700 (or ACT equivalent).

 

ALPHONSE MOSCO ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will provide funds to four men’s athletic programs (basketball, cross-country, wrestling, and football), and will rotate annually.  The individual (freshman, transfer or upperclassmen) is selected by the coach and must be a member of the designated sport.  The recipient of this award must meet NCAA, PSAC, and University eligibility requirements.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

MR. AND MRS. VICTOR O'DESSA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded to a freshman member of the Edinboro University football team. The recipient is to be identified by the head football coach and is not renewable.

 

PIZZA HUT ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides an annual award to an incoming freshman who is enrolled full-time and actively participating on the football, women's basketball or men's basketball team.  The scholarship will rotate among the preceding teams in the order presented.  The recipient must have graduated from high school with a minimum QPA of 2.5 in a college preparatory curriculum and meet all NCAA eligibility requirements.  The student must be on the active roster and participating in competition.  This scholarship is not renewable.  Financial need is not a factor.

 

PLYER OVERHEAD DOOR COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP

Plyler Overhead Door Company is a family-owned business serving Erie and Crawford Counties of Pennsylvania since 1967.  This scholarship is representative not only of Mr. Plyler’s generosity, but also to his belief in the importance of providing student athletes with every opportunity to achieve their educational goals.  The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclassman that is a member of the Edinboro University football team and must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  There are no geographic restrictions.  The scholarship is renewable based on the discretion of the coach and University policy and may be awarded for a maximum of five years.

 

PNC BANK ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides an award to an incoming freshman or upperclassman who is a member of the wrestling team.  The recipient must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  This scholarship is renewable based on the discretion of the coach and University policy.  It may be received for a maximum of five years.

 

TODD E. AND MICHELE L. REBICH ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

Todd and Michele Rebich have long been advocates and supporters of Edinboro University and its athletic programs.  It is their hope that their philanthropic examples will encourage and motivate students to support a non-profit cause themselves one day.  The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Women’s Swimming Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

JUSTIN AND JESSICA REED WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Justin Reed, a 1999 alumnus of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a former member of the University Wrestling Team, and his wife Jessica.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

J. RANDOLPH SEGAR JR. WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman, upperclassman, or transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA, PSAC, and University requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

SGA ATHLETIC/ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

The recipients of the two scholarships offered must be entering freshmen whose SAT scores are 900 or greater and/or have a minimum QPA of 3.0 and will participate in one of the minor sports programs. The minor sports include men's/women's swimming, baseball, softball, men's/women's track, men's/women's cross county, and men's/women's tennis. Financial need is not a factor.  These scholarships are renewable for up to four years providing the recipients maintain a 3.0 or greater QPA, incur no major infractions against the student code of conduct, and continue to participate in their respective minor sports programs.

 

RONALD SIMMONS ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a freshman member of the men's basketball team.  He must be a Pennsylvania resident. The men’s head basketball coach will identify the recipient.

 

PROFESSOR THOMAS STANKO BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP FOR MEN

The recipient of this scholarship must be a male junior college transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Men’s Basketball Team and meets minimum NCAA, PSAC, and University requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for two years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

PROFESSOR THOMAS STANKO BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN

The recipient of this scholarship must be a female junior college transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Women’s Basketball Team and meets minimum NCAA, PSAC, and University requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for two years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

WILLIAM AND MARY ANN STARR MEN’S ATHLETICS SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Men’s Wrestling or Men’s Football teams, and meets NCAA eligibility requirements.  Recipients are to be selected from the Mars Area School District, including the Borough of Mars, Valencia, Adams Township and Middlesex Township, Pennsylvania.

Financial need may be a factor.

 

WILLIAM AND MARY ANN STARR WOMEN’S ATHLETICS SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman or upperclass student who is a member of the Edinboro University Women’s Basketball or Women’s Cross Country/Track teams and meets NCAA eligibility requirements.  Recipients are to be selected from the Mars Area School District, including the Borough of Mars, Valencia, Adams Township and Middlesex Township, Pennsylvania.  Financial need may be a factor.

 

STONIS FAMILY WRESTLING SCHOLARHSIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman, upperclass, or transfer student who is a member of the Edinboro University Wrestling Team and meets minimum NCAA, PSAC, and University requirements.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

THAYER POWER AND COMMUNICATION LINE CONSTRUCTION CO INC. SCHOLARSHIP

This award will be divided equally between the men’s and women’s athletic programs.  The Athletic Director will determine the sports that will receive the scholarship money based on departmental needs.  The recipient must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  This award is renewable based on the discretion of the coach and University policy.  It may be received for a maximum of five years. 

 

CLIFFORD TROYER WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This annual scholarship is offered to an incoming freshman who will participate in the Edinboro University wrestling program.  The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in his core-curriculum courses in high school; must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or better;  and must have a minimum SAT Score of 700 (or ACT equivalent). 

 

HAL UMBARGER MEMORIAL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

Mr. Harold (Hal) Umbarger retired from Edinboro University after 31 years of service, including many years spent with the athletic department.  It is the intent of the donors that this scholarship be distributed equally between women’s basketball and football.  The scholarship recipient must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five (5) years provided the individual maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

VANLANINGHAM ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP                                                                        

John VanLaningham has established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to student-athletes.  The scholarship recipient must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the Director of Athletics, multiple awards may be given.  The award will rotate in the following order: Football, Women’s Basketball and Men’s Basketball.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.

 

HELEN VAUGHN WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a member of the Edinboro University wrestling team who meets all NCAA eligibility requirements. The recipient must exhibit academic achievement and will be identified by the head wrestling coach.

 

WALKER BROTHERS ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an active member of the men's basketball team and may be renewed for up to five years at the discretion of the head basketball coach, who also determines the recipient.

 

WOMEN’S SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or upperclassman who is a member of a women’s sports team.  The sports team that will receive the award will be selected each year by the Director of Athletics in conjunction with women’s sport coaches and will be issued the scholarship based on departmental needs. The recipient must meet minimum NCAA requirements and maintain NCAA eligibility.  At the discretion of the coach, the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years.

 

WRESTLING OLYMPIANS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded to a wrestling team member who meets minimum NCAA requirements and maintains NCAA eligibility.  The scholarship is renewable based on the discretion of the coach and university policy, for a maximum of 5 years.

 

MIKE AND RUTH ZAHORCHAK ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

This award is offered to an entering freshman athlete from Pennsylvania (consideration is first given to residents of Beaver and Allegheny counties). Other factors in selection include academic achievement in high school and athletic prowess. It is renewable for up to four years.
