Non Traditional Scholarships

BIRCHARD FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

The Birchard family has long been advocates of the Edinboro community, in particular, General McLane School District and Edinboro University.  Both Kenny and Terri Birchard have fond memories of their years at Edinboro University and they are establishing this scholarship to provide financial assistance for students pursuing higher education and to encourage their commitment to education and philanthropy.  The eligible candidate must be enrolling in a degree-seeking program for the first time and meet the minimum academic standards for enrollment, which include general scholarship, character, interest, and motivation as may be determined by official scholastic records, aptitude tests, recommendations, and interviews.  The eligible candidate may be enrolled on a part-time or full-time basis.  To continue eligibility, the adult learner must maintain satisfactory academic progress, and be continuously enrolled with a minimum of 6 semester hours each semester and maintains a 3.5 QPA.  Financial need may be considered. 

 

TAMMY DAVIES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Students eligible for the Tammy Davies Memorial Scholarship must be non-traditional students pursuing their first undergraduate degree with a minimum 3.5 cumulative QPA and minimum of 64 earned credits.  An award may be given to an Edinboro University employee-student who meets the scholarship criteria, for the purpose of providing supplemental support to cover the costs of enrollment fees, books and related expenses.  The scholarship has been endowed and the first award will be made in September 2002.

 

EDINBORO UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION (EUWA) SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is provided to a student who has returned to school after a five-year or more absence (non-traditional).  The recipient must be a full-time enrolled undergraduate student with 95 or more earned credits and whose QPA is 3.0 or greater. Priority is given to students who are the sole support of a minor child, disabled spouse or elderly parent(s).

 

HILLMAN-JENRETTE SCHOLARSHIP

Both employees of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Patricia (Trish) A. Hillman is a professor of Computer Science and Dr. Jerra Jenrette is a professor of History.  Trish and Jerra want to create this scholarship to assist a deserving female student studying for a career in a field not typically populated by women.   The recipient must be a female, traditional freshman or a non-traditional first-time college student, who had a high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.  The recipient must be a major in one of the following disciplines: anthropology, biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental sciences, economics, geography, geology, history, mathematics, physics, political science, psychology, or sociology.  Financial need is a factor.

 

MINEO FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Joseph R. Mineo received both a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1973 graduating cum laude, and his Master of Education degree in 1978 from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  Mr. Mineo was past President and is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Edinboro University Alumni Association Board of Directors.  Joyce A. (Olszewski) Mineo also graduated from Edinboro University in 1975 with a duel degree in special education and elementary education and in 1978 with a Master of Education degree.  The establishment of this scholarship will recognize and reward future students, further demonstrating the Mineos’ commitment to education.  Each academic year, an award will be made to an entering traditional freshman or a non-traditional first-time college student with the following order of preference:   1. The student is an Education major who attended Asbury Elementary School in the Millcreek Township School District in Erie, Pennsylvania; 2. The student attended Asbury Elementary School in Millcreek; 3. The student is an Education major who attended school in Millcreek; 4. The student attended school in Millcreek.  This scholarship is renewable for an additional three years provided the student maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative Q.P.A.  Financial need may be a factor. 

 

DOROTHY BRADY MITCHELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awards are made to a non-traditional student in his/her junior or senior year majoring in special education (undergraduate degree) who has a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0 and a minimum of 64 credits completed. If the student is entering the junior year, he/she must be scheduled to enroll in EX595 (special education field experience) during the fall semester.  If the course is dropped during the fall semester, the scholarship will be rescinded for the spring semester.  If the student is a senior, he/she must have already satisfactorily completed the EX595 course.  Individuals enrolled in the teacher certification and master of education programs are not eligible for the scholarship.  The student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester.  If there are multiple students with identical credentials, preference is given to the student who is committed to working in a field with individuals who are emotionally disturbed (as indicated on the scholarship application).  This scholarship is renewable through the completion of 128 credits.

 

BETTY J. MURCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

This scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional minority student who did not enroll in college immediately after high school.  The recipient must have a QPA of 3.0 and major in nursing or education.  If the recipient is an incoming freshman, the award is renewable for a maximum of four years provided a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0 is maintained.  Financial need and academic merit are used in determining the recipient.

 

PROFESSOR ROBERT J. PFINGSTLER ENGLISH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established to honor Robert J. Pfingstler, a beloved English professor at Edinboro University for 34 years.  The recipient must be: an English major, enrolled full-time, have earned a minimum of 60 credits, and have a minimum QPA of 2.5.  Preference will be given to a non-traditional student.  This award can only be given during the fall and/or spring semesters and is not renewable.  Financial need should be a factor.

 

DR. JUDITH REYNOLDS AWARD FOR NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS

Michael Reynolds has established this scholarship in honor of his mother, Dr. Judith Reynolds, who returned to school after having her two children.  Preference will be made to a non-traditional student (at least thirty years of age), pursuing an undergraduate degree as evidenced by a record of continuous enrollment at Edinboro University.  The award may be made to a full-time or part-time student.  The Scholarship Committee may select one or more persons for a scholarship award.  Financial need may be considered but is not a limiting factor. 

 

SAEGERTOWN SOCIAL AND SERVICE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

The Saegertown Social and Service Club represents women enriching the lives of Saegertown through community service.  This scholarship is established not only to provide financial assistance, but to provide a confident sense of motivation and support to female students deserving of educational opportunity and to enhance the quality of life for the broader campus community. Two awards shall be made annually, with preference given to female graduates of Saegertown High School.  One award shall be made to a traditional student with a high school average of 3.0.  One award shall be made to a non-traditional student.  In the event there are no eligible Saegertown High School graduates, then the non-traditional recipient may be a resident of Hayfield or Woodcock Townships, Blooming Valley or Saegertown Boroughs for the past five years.  Candidates must complete a brief application indicating an active role in community service.  The scholarship award to the traditional freshman recipient is not renewable.  The annual award to the non-traditional student is renewable for an additional three years provided the student maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative Q.P.A.

 

SANTELLI DIVERSITY ENDOWMENT

The purpose of the Santelli Diversity Scholarship is to promote educational access with preference to persons within diverse groups, including but not limited to:  racial and ethnic minorities; single parents and female heads-of-household with children; non-traditional (i.e., older adults, displaced workers, senior citizens); and persons with learning or physical disabilities.  Financial aid must be a factor. 

 

SGA SCHOLARSHIP FOR NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS

This scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional student who is enrolled full time during the fall and spring semesters and is 24 years or older at the time of enrollment.  The student must have a minimum of 64 earned credits and a QPA of 3.0 or greater.  This scholarship is renewable for one academic year provided the student maintains a cumulative QPA of 3.0 and demonstrates academic progress determined by FAFSA. Financial need may be a factor.
