Sociology Scholarships

LUTHER V. HENDRICKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Luther V. Hendricks joined the Edinboro faculty in 1946-47 and had risen to the position of dean of the school of behavioral and social sciences before his death in 1970.  Dr. Richard J. Gromen, Mr. Gregory D. Lessig, Mr. Harvey L. Heath, and the late Mr. Carl Wozniak, all faculty emeritus, originally established the Luther V. Hendricks Memorial Fund Committee in 1972 to “promote and foster excellence in social studies education at Edinboro State College,” as a result of a generous monetary gift by Mrs. Hendricks and members of the Hendricks family.  The scholarship will be awarded to eligible students who are in their junior or senior year and are pursuing undergraduate degrees in the following academic disciplines: history/anthropology, political science/criminal justice, sociology, and economics.  The award will rotate each year to the subsequent academic area.  The recipient must be enrolled full-time, earned a minimum of 60 credits, and have a minimum QPA of 3.0.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the fall and/or spring semesters and is not transferable.  Financial aid may be a factor. 

 

JOSEPH AND MATILDA IUTCOVICH SCHOLARSHIP

This award was developed by Drs. Mark and Joyce Iutcovich.  The recipient of this scholarship must be a female sophomore student majoring in sociology, enrolled full-time during the fall and spring semesters with a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0.  The award is renewable for a maximum of three years, provided the student maintains a cumulative QPA of 3.0 and demonstrates academic progress as determined by FAFSA.  The funds from this award cannot be used for the purpose of attending classes in the summer.

 

FLORENCE AND DENISE OHLER SCHOLARSHIP

The funds for this scholarship were provided by Florence Ohler, a relative of Denise Ohler.

Upperclass Student Qualifications:

The recipient must be enrolled full time majoring in psychology, sociology, or social work.  The student must have a minimum of 32 earned undergraduate credits and a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.5. Financial need may be a factor.  The scholarship is renewable through the completion of 128 credits provided the following qualifications are met: the student remains enrolled on a full-time basis, maintains a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.5, and must demonstrate academic progress as determined by FAFSA.

 

SOCIAL WORK SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a social work major who is enrolled full-time (12 or more credits per semester) and has a minimum QPA of 3.0.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the fall and/or spring semesters and is not transferable.  Financial need may be a factor.   

 

LOUIS J. TULLIO SCHOLARSHIP

This award was developed by Drs. Mark and Joyce Iutcovich.  This scholarship is awarded to a male sophomore student majoring in sociology who is enrolled full-time for the fall and spring semesters with a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0.  The award can be renewed for a maximum of three years, provided the student maintains a cumulative QPA of 3.0 and demonstrates academic progress as determined by FAFSA.  The funds from this award cannot be used for the purpose of attending classes in the summer.

 

ANTHONY AND CATHY ZUMPETTA SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman majoring in history, sociology, criminal justice, or social work and must remain in one of these fields.  The student should have an 1100 combined SAT (or ACT equivalent) and have graduated in the top 1/5 of their high school graduating class.  Non-traditional first semester freshman will be eligible.  The successful candidate must be full-time and maintain a cumulative 3.0 QPA.  Financial need is a factor.  The funds for this scholarship were developed by Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Zumpetta.
