Speech & Communication Studies Scholarships

STEPHEN PAUL DANOWSKI II MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends and family of Stephen Paul Danowski II, a beloved speech communications/media student at Edinboro University.  His friends and family are establishing this scholarship with the hope that it will encourage the same commitment to education, community involvement, and enthusiasm and zest for living that Stephen demonstrated during his life.  The student must be a Communication Studies major, physically disabled, with preference given to a person relying on a wheelchair for mobility.  The student must be in good academic standing, having achieved a minimum of 60 credits.  Preference will be given to a student who has exceptional character as demonstrated by volunteerism, work experience, and/or participation in campus and/or community activities.  Financial need is a factor.

 

ERIE TIMES NEWS AND COXIAL CABLE SPEECH AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was created by the Erie Times News and Coaxial Cable Speech and Communications Studies Scholarship, both community organizations that understand the importance of supporting public education.  The recipient must be pursuing a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Print Journalism or Speech and Communication and must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per semester and have earned a minimum of 60 credits with a cumulative QPA of 3.0.  The student must have exceptional leadership skills as demonstrated by volunteerism, work experience, and/or participation in activities on campus and in the community.  Consideration will be given to undergraduate students that are residents of Erie, Crawford, Elk, Forest, Venango or Warren counties in Pennsylvania, with preference given to students that are the children of Times Publishing Company employees or retirees.  Financial need may be a factor. 

 

DR. RICHARD A. FORCUCCI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was developed by Mr. Russell Blount in honor of Dr. Richard Forcucci.  It is awarded to an Edinboro University graduate student studying in the field of speech-language pathology.  The recipient must be enrolled in the Edinboro University graduate studies program, majoring in the area of speech-language pathology, be enrolled in a minimum of 6 graduate credits during the fall and spring semesters, and have earned a minimum of 20 graduate credits with a minimum QPA of 3.5.  An application must be completed and the Speech-Language Pathology Department Scholarship Committee must be involved in the selection of the recipient.  Financial need is not necessary.

 

DR. FRANK JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in speech and hearing, who has earned 64 or more credits and has attained a 3.0 or higher cumulative QPA.  Financial need is a factor (need may outweigh someone who has a higher QPA).

 

JEFFY JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was developed by Rob and Carrie Lowther in honor of Jeffy Johnson, a family friend who passed away as a result of muscular dystrophy.  The student should be a Nursing or Speech and Hearing major entering their sophomore, junior or senior year.  The student must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative QPA, must be enrolled full-time, and must have earned at least 24 credits in each academic year completed.  The preferred recipient should be an athlete who is not receiving any type of athletic scholarship.  Financial need may be a factor.

 

PITZER/RUPNIK SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was provided by Ruth S. Brink in honor of Mr. Brian Pitzer and Ms. Sara Rupnik.  It is awarded to an incoming freshman who graduated in the top 40 percentile of his/her high school class with a minimum QPA of 2.5. The student must be enrolled full-time in a minimum of 12 credits per semester majoring in English (creative writing/journalism), communications studies/media, or theatre arts. The student must have graduated from a high school located in one of the following counties: Erie, Crawford, Warren, Mercer, Venango, Lawrence, Butler, Allegheny, Beaver, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Forest, or McKean. Renewable for up to three years, the student must maintain a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0 and demonstrate academic progress as determined by FAFSA. Financial need is not a factor.

 

DENNIS D. RANALLI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Mr. Russell Blount in honor of Dennis D. Ranalli.  The recipient of this scholarship must be accepted in the graduate studies program majoring in the area of speech-language pathology and must have graduated from Edinboro University with a bachelor's degree in speech and hearing disorders (BASHD) with a minimum 3.0 cumulative QPA.  The recipient must be enrolled on a full-time basis during the fall and spring semesters.  The scholarship is not renewable and financial need is not a factor.

 

COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was developed by various internal and external constituents, and is designed to support students studying in the Communication Studies Department.  The recipient of this scholarship must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester, must have earned a minimum of 80 credits with a cumulative QPA of 3.5, and be majoring in speech communication (BADS) or the speech and hearing disorders program (BASHD). The student must have exceptional leadership skills as demonstrated by volunteerism, work experience, and/or participation in activities on campus and in the community.  Financial need is not a factor.

 

DR. BOB WALLACE COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Christa and Ken White in honor of Dr. Bob Wallace, a professor in the Speech and Communication Studies Department at Edinboro University for nearly thirty years.  The recipient must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Speech and Communication Studies, with preference given to freshman students who have a minimum 1000 SAT score (or equivalent).  Preference will also be given to students with a concentration in Radio/TV News or Media Management/Production.  This scholarship is renewable if the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.  Financial need is a factor.
