STUDENT EMPLOYMENT
Student Employment provides part-time employment to degree seeking students enrolled half-time or greater. Students are paid at least minimum wage. Graduate assistants are paid at a higher rate. Permanent University employees (full-time and part-time) are not eligible for student employment positions. Temporary employees may not hold a student employee position while serving in a regular temporary employment status.
Students seeking positions must have an award of federal, institutional, or graduate assistant before they begin employment. Awards from federal or institutional funds may not exceed 15 hours per week. Students who reach their maximum award before the end of the term will be required to stop working until the next award period. Students who work during break periods (i.e. Summer or between Fall and Spring enrollments) may work up to 40 hours per week and are all generally paid from institutional sources.
EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS
(Federal or Institutional)
All students who are seeking any student employment offered by the University must be awarded either federal or institutional work.
Step 1. COMPLETE THE FAFSA APPLICATION YEARLY
Deadline MARCH 15th
Say "YES" to work study, even if you are not sure if you want it. The YES response will make certain that your name will be made available to prospective employers and does not commit you to accepting any position. This includes any type of student employment on campus.
Step 2: MEET THE MARCH 15TH PRIORITY DATE.
The "priority" deadline date for filing this form is March 15th of each year for the upcoming academic year.
Step 3: REVIEW YOUR STUDENT AID REPORT (SAR).
You will receive a Student Aid Report to verify information submitted on the FAFSA form. MAKE SURE IT IS CORRECT AND COMPLETE! If everything is correct, you will not need to do anything else until you receive your award letter.
Step 4: MAKE CORRECTIONS TO YOUR SAR IF NEEDED.
If corrections are needed, correct the Student Aid Report and send it back to the address indicated.
Step 5: REVIEW YOUR FINANCIAL AID AWARD LETTER.
If you said "YES" to work study, you will receive an award letter in late March or early April.
Step 6: COMPLETE THE ONLINE STUDENT EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION.
Once you complete the online Student Employment application form at:
http://departments.edinboro.edu/emr/studentemployment.html (Click Student Employment Applications and Job Postings Menu).
Click on ACTIVATE Student Employment Applications and Job Postings Menu (SES)
Please make sure you activate your application. If you are unable to activate the student employment application, contact the Office of Student Financial Support and Services, Hamilton Hall via e-mail finaid@edinboro.edu or 814-732-5555, ext 474.
Step 7: SEARCH FOR A POSITION.
A work-study award does not guarantee you will obtain a work-study position. To be considered eligible for employment and to increase your chances of obtaining a work-study position, you must contact prospective employers on campus to request an interview. Check early for possible jobs. If you wait until the semester begins, many positions are already filled. It is highly recommended that you contact several offices in order to increase your chances of obtaining employment.
Step 8: ENSURE YOUR AUTHORIZATION TO WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
You must be authorized to work by the student employment office. Note: Authorizations are initiated by the hiring department.
Step 9: COMPLETE PAYROLL INFORMATION.
You must go to the Accounting Office, located on the 2nd floor of McNerney Hall, or the Bursar's Office, located in Hamilton Hall, to complete necessary paperwork.
The student must:
You will not get paid for your worked hours until this step is completed!
