Graduate Assistantships

Eligibility for an Assistantship

Graduate assistantships are awarded to well-qualified students who have been admitted to a master's degree program. Departmental awards are made competitively. To receive fullest consideration, students must be admitted into the master's program by the assistantship deadline. The following must be met in order to be eligible for assistantship:

  • Acceptance into a graduate program,
  • Enrollment for full-time study and
  • Acceptance by the director of the office where assigned.

Submission Deadlines

Submit assistantship application by the deadline for the semester in which you are interested.

Clinical Psychology
Fall entrance: February 15 (Late applicants may be considered)
MA Counseling
 Fall entrance is February 15 and Spring entrance is October 15.
MFA/MA Art
 Fall entrance is January 15 and Spring entrance is October 15
Special Education Online M.Ed.
 Fall Cohort. Special admission instructions
Speech, Language and Hearing
 Fall entrance: March 1
Social Work
 Fall entrance: March 1 (Late applicants may be considered)
All other programs
 Fall entrance is February 15 and Spring entrance is October 15.

Two types of Graduate Assistantships are available.

Full-time:Half-time:
Remission of course tuition.Remission of one-half of course tuition.
Stipend of $2,025 per semester. Stipend of $1,012 per semester.

18 hours of work per week (270 hrs/sem)

 9 hours of work per week. (135 hrs/sem)

Assistantships in residential life also include a waiver of charges for a private room in the residence hall and a telephone.

A limited number of prorated Assistantships are available for the summer.
