Contracts are proposed, and completed, in regular courses in which Honors students enroll.  A contracted course provides a level of assignment and study which are above and beyond the requirements laid out in the syllabus.  A contract serves the purpose of making a regular course into an honors course.

The process first involves identifying a regular course in which you are interested and consulting with the professor about the possibility.  When discussing the idea with a professor, have an idea in mind for the type of project, or research, appropriate for the course and provide her/him with a copy of the Contract Guidelines for their review.

Upon agreement by the professor, and using the Honors Program guidelines, construct a proposal, complete the RCWHP Contract Proposal Form and turn it in by the published deadline.  Twice during the semester Contract Progress Forms and reports are due.  At the end of the semester, a Contract Completion Form and Contract Presentation Form are both due.  The culminating event is a presentation of the work completed, given by the student, to an Honors Program audience.

If the proposal, or the project / research are not honors level in their scope or requirements, the Director of the program will offer suggestions for acceptable improvement.  Students will have an opportunity to revise and resubmit the proposal for approval.  In the event that initial approval of the proposal is denied, students will have one week (seven days) from the date of notification by the director, to turn in the revised work.  Only one opportunity for revision will be afforded per contract proposal.
